Owing to the large number of country mer
chants v.ho have visited the city during the
past week In quest of winter stocks ot
goods the home trade ot local Jobbers has
gen orally been very satisfactory. At the
eitno time there has been a fair amount
of mall orders , BO that the total volume ot
business for the week has been about as
good at any ono had reason to anticipate.
Taking everything . .Into consideration the
Omaha jobbers appear to bs doing as well
on could bo expected , though It Is true trade
Is not up to what would be expected had the
crop datnago been less eovero , Trom a
good many sections of the state , where the
crops were pretty well burned up , the mer
chants are buying % cry sparingly , and while
the number of orders may bo up to the av
erage , their footings are \ery snnll. Col
lections are not very brisk , and yet the

While this Is the general situation , there Is
considerable difference In the reports made
by jobbers In different lines. It Mould np >

There was a latgo Biipnly ot co\vs nnd

past two or three days 1ms enabled buyers
to bo a llttlo.inoro particular , and thry wore
In no hurry to buy this morning , mulling the
market rather slow. Prices were lower , and
the market could be safely quoted lOc to 20c
lower thnn the middle of the week on e\rry-
IhliiK unless It might bo on choice cow :
and heifers.Vlille there was no gredl
number of stackers and feeders lit llrsl

lliere being very few outside buyers in tlis
yards , and prices -vvoto lower. Representa
