CHICAGO , Aug. 20. Heavy receipts , pres
ent nml anticipated , xvtnkened llio wheat
rnarlttt today ami December llnlslicil wltli a
loss of 'jc. Corn cloitdi < - lower for May
ami September oata arc " * c lower. Provisions
closed with little change.
In wheat tlicrc was only a moderate specu
lative trade. Tlic price lu pt.wlthlu % c range ,
wllh llio trade practlc.il ! > all local. The feel
ing was again weaker nnd n little lower.
Initial trades were at \ \ Io % loss. Decem
ber opciiul at "Otic ami sold elf from HO tr >
"i&c more , rallied ' /tc , became dull , changed
some nnd closed with December at Ofi' a. The
weaker ( otic was due mainly to tlie large
inovinicnt In the northwest , the lower cables
mid heavy receipts were primary markets , all
of vvlilch combined ta make the situation
wal < from the slatt , tha price later on hav
ing a slight rally , Influenced some by the up
turn In corn nii'l ' reported heavy export. * ,
which ttire afterwards found to he an error.
Tlicrc was n good deal of changing September
to Dtccmber at 3'iC difference , and n promi
nent local elevator concern was credited with
doing the rcvcrtc.
In corn there WHS a fiilr trade nnd prices
changed frequently within ' /fee Io % c r ,
The feeling was r.ither mixed , the prlro
Ing fairly and rallied later. There was quite
free selling from UIP start and prices sagged
back , being a coiitlniiallon ot yesterday's do-
cllnc. The selling nt the start was InfliiPticpd
by the more favorable crop IIPWH , the weather
reports being rather morp bullish. Tlie rally
which followed was attrlbiilcd to the pn-dlc-
t on of the lccl uea'l'cr ' lit reau cf 'ro-t ; tw.
A feature was the liberal offerings within a
fraction of GUc for May , but at that price a
good demand prevailed and checked any fur
ther decline. One cone , rn was credited with
selling 000,000 bn. Jlay during the early part
of Hie session. Outside mnrt-ets we-e oil easier
and fractionally lower. Tlic market onciui !
at from ' /4c to % c decline and soon sold ofl
to from "ic to % c more , rallied lie , eased oil
" -ic , advanced lie. declined from HO to ViC
changed some , ruled steady and closed at
62e for M\y.
Oats were active and fairly stendy on gooi
buying. Them was free telling by the ele
vator people , but the demand was fair. Tlio
range foi > September was -c. Provisions
wcr * generally llrm on small hog receipts
firmer outside markets , good buying am' '
rather scare offerings. The market weakenoi
moderately near the close. Compared will
last night , January pork nnd ribs are un
changed and lard Is 2c lilcher.

WEDNESDAY , Aug. 20.
The receipts today consisted ot 2,812 cattle ,
7,821 hogs nnd 337 sheep , as against 3,811
cattle , 8,051 hogs and 278 sheep on yesterday ,
and 2,23" cattle , 9,521 hogs and CO sheep en
Wednesday of last vceh. Thus far this
week the receipts foot up 9.69S cattle , 18H25
hogs , and GIG sheep against 7,039 cattle. 20-
S39 hogs and 1,898 sheep fcr the correspond
ing days of last week. This shows an In
crease of over 2,000 cattle , but n decrease of
about 2,000 bogs.
CATTLE Out of the 2,842 cattle received
here today , 551 liead were shipped direct to
the packers from Kansas City. Tlio balance
of the receipts were made up largely it cows ,
canncrs and stock cattle , there being no
choice corn fed steers In the yards , There
were a few light native steers and some
pretty fair westerns. The receipts of corn
fid cattle have been FO light during the past
few days that the packers have besn unable to
secure as many as were wanted. Today the
packers reported that they were trying to
buy corn fed cuttle In Kansas City. The
general market was fully steady. One bunch
of corn fed westerns brought $4.05 , which
was the top for the day. There were a few
westerns good enough to bring " 3.60.
There were n few pretty good cows , but
nothing very tnncy. The market was steady
on the desirable grades of butchers' stock ,
such as gord cows and heifers , but lower on
the trashy stuff. The supply ot stoclters arid
fecdtrs wns large , but light stock cattle pre
dominated. There were , however , n few
pretty gcod Meshy feeders. Representative

HOGS The receipts of hogs fell a little
short of yesterday's run. The general mar
ket did not show much change from yester
day. Tliero were no very fancy loads of hogs
on sale today and the top was not as high
as yesterday by 6c. The best heavy and
butcher weight hogs sold largely at $5.4G to
} 5.CO , while the light and light mixed hogs
ranged from $5 to | 5.40. The market on the
poor and trashy stuff Is very uneven and the
