Among the numerous topics discussed In
the current number of the American Journal
of Politics , "The Abolition of Poverty , " by
Edward Everett Hale , Is of moro than usual
Interest. The writer alms to Impress on his
readers the distinction existing between pov
erty and pauperism. "Critics In Public
Schools" Is discussed by a symposium ot
seven distinguished writers. The way they
flounder about In handling the topic suggests
the need of further study on the part of the
leaders of thought bcforo they confuse and
disgust children with topics that to minds ot
old men and special students are clouded as
mud. T. Hurko Grant writes In an InterestIng -

other thcinu Is the recent railroad strike ,
which Is discussed editorially. The motives
of the dispute are candidly considered and.
the conclusion Is reached that the leaders of
the American Railway union have done great
harm to the cause of organized labor , besldcn
