KING CORN KMMORISIIING
( Continued from Second r Ke. )
cultivated once anil some ot It twice. There.
Is now plenty of moisture. NotlilnK Is lack *
Ing for good growth , With the absence of
hot wlmla nnd n rcnsonnblo amount of inolst-
uro hereafter no better conditions could be
desired.
SlinillOAN COUNTY.
Gordon Wheat wns the principal crop last
yenr. About the same ncreage this year.
Hundreds of acres ot chlckory planted , but
the dry weather proventoil Us growth. Corn
Is In good stand nnd the drouth has not
effected It , Impossible to make collections.
Trade will Improve as soon as crop Is as
sured.
Hay Springs Crops In this vicinity nro the
best wo have over had at this time. The
principal crop last year wits Wheat Fifty
to GO per cent less than last year. Moro
oats and corn this year by the same rate.
Collections are n lltllo slow. Deposits In
banks are more than n year n o. Cash on
hand nearly double.
Hnshvlllc Principal crop last year wheat.
Acreage this year , compared with last , about
three-fourths as much. I'rospccta this year
at present good. Have had plenty of rain
up to this time. Collections arc slow , trade
dull , and all hero depends on crop.
SHERMAN COUNTY.
Lttchflcld Small grain was damaged by
drouth , but a flno rain on the 4th and 8th
of Juno have improved the prospect of small
grain very materially. A number of pieces
with favorable weather will make a full
crop. Collections are slow , owing lo last
year's failure , but prospects are bright for
good collections this fall.
Loup City This county has not suffered
from the drouth as severely as any of the
adjoining counties.
SIOUX COUNTY.
Harrison Not as many acres In as last
year. Collections are about tlio same as
past year , ns this is moro of a stock county
than farming. Farmers are a little blue.
Montrose Acreage about the same ns last
year. Moro diversified. Acreage of corn a
great deal larger. Prospects for small grain
not very good. It Is nearly ruined by
drouth. Collections are very slow and hard
to mako. Condition of trade quiet ; future
prospects not very bright , either for mer
chants or farmers ; stock In flno condition
and doing well.
STANTON COUNTY.
Stanton The acreage In wheat and oats
lias decreased this year compared with lust
year 25 per cent. The cause of the decrease
In wheat was the low price. While about
the same amount ol oats was sown this as
last year , a great part of the same was sown
before the frost In March , which so damaged
that cereal that a great part of It was
planted to corn. There Is about the same
acreage of rye as last year , but the crop will
bo very poor. It gave token of being an
unusually heavy crop until ths frost , which
caught a great deal of It In the blossom , and
the extent of the damage will not be known
definitely until harvested. Those who have
rye say tliero will not bo a half crop. Corn
at present Is In fine condition , never better.
It has never suffered on account of dry
weather. Acreage 1 per cent greater than
last year. The wheat and oats have not
fare'd so well. Collections are slow and
fanners are only buying the actual neces
sities of .life , which reduces the trade of
merchants.
THAYEU COUNTY.
Alexandria Wheat Is a failure en account
of dry weather. Corn killed In May by
frost , but is looking well now. The crop
prospects now , except wheat and oats , are
as good as In years past.
Hebron Tne principal crop last year was
corn , of which there was about an average
yield. There is at leait one-third Increase
of corn acreage this year , as it has boon
demonstrated that It Is the safest crop. It
Is in splendid shape , an extra good stand
and growing well. Oats and wheat will not
be half a crop on account of the dry weather
during March , April and the first part of
May. A , good .deal of wheat ground was
plowed up and put into corn. It U almost
impossible to make collections from mer
chants in country towns , as they must , carry
their customers , and the farmers have very
little ready money. There Is no prospect of
permanent improvement till fall. Merchants
here are In good shape , as they do business
on a cash system. Prospects were never
better for an immense corn crop.
THOMAS COUNTY.
Thedford Prospects not bright ; rains too
long delayed. '
VALLEY COUNTY.
Arcadia Principal crops last year , corn
and wheat , with less acreage of wheat and
nearly double of corn this year. Larger
crop planted than ever before. Small grain
will be unusually light. Corn never looked
better than at the present time. Business Is
very light and collections slow , bitt If there
is a good corn crop all will be right.
Ord Corn is always the principal crop.
Acreage of corn is somewhat larger than last
year. Corn never had a better prospect than
now. The stand is better than over before.
Small grain has been seriously damaged by
dry weather and will not exceed one-third
of a crop. More millet will bo sown tills
year than over before. Hay will necessarily
be very short. Collections are at n stand
still. Very little will bo done with them un
til fall. Merchants ore , In general , In very
good shape to stand up until fall. Trade Is
very light.
WASHINGTON COUNTY.
Blair Copious rains have practically In
sured a fair crop ot small grain , which is
now looking quite well , but is a little back
ward. Corn Is looking fine. Is very clean
and a good stand all over the county. The
acreage is about the samo.as . previous years.
The prospects are that this county will have
a full crop. Collections are a trifle slow ,
but not bad. Trade Is fairly good , with

YOUK COUNTY.
Dradshaw Wheat , oats nnd hay very
light. None for salo. The recent rains have
been enough to carry all other crops In
good sliapo to July 1. Corn never was In
better slmpo and wo have the heaviest acre
age we have over planted. The only draw
back Is that tlic soil Is dry from lonn
drouth , and without frequent rains , as soon
as corn begins to sink deep It will reach dry
ground and stop growing. With heavy ruins
wo will have the largest crop over raised ,
The prospect Is that wo shall have abundant
moisture.
Waco The prospect for corn was never
bettor and n much larger acreage than last
year , probably the largest ever raised. Oata
will make about one-half of n crop. Wheat
will bo nearly a failure. Some fields may
make ten to fifteen bushels per acre. Crops
of all kinds wore very light last year , not
to exceed one-fourth of a crop. Collections
arc very good and the general oullook la
favorable to all kinds of business.
York No crop In York cotinly last yeor '
to amount to anything. No small grain tlila
year. One-half moro acreage In corn this
year tha.ii laat. Corn looks well now , but
needs rain. Collections poor ; trade dull nnd
not likely to Increase until crop Is assured.
