Although the wind which blew over this
city Wednesday nlglit was onp of HIP most
severe of any In late years , comparatively
little damage r.na don * . This morning nn

ous branches of trees which strewed thp
streets , a few unroofed houses and barns ,
but no fatalities.
Probably the most serious damage occurred
In the. Antelope vallvy. Bailey's block nt
Twentieth and 0 utrevts , which generally
gets knocked over when the wind gets bols-
teroufl , had a portion of the roof torn away
and about fifteen feet of the wall went with
It. A liny barn In the rear of the block was
ale overturned. The Hughes block , at
Twenty-fourth nnd O streets , had a portion
of the roof blown away , leaving a woman
and her two children exposed to the ele
ments , but they found shelter In a neigh
boring house and none of them were injured.
A part of the roof of the C street school was
also blown oft. but no one was Injured.
Among minor accidents reported was that
to Flora Stclner of 921 Washington street ,
who was seriously Injured by a piece of
flying timber ; the big street car building at
Fourteenth and South hid Its back broken
by a barn , which came from a neighboring
lot , falling on It ; telephone and telegraphic
wires were completely disarranged , and ccm-
munlcatlon to any part of the c > ty or to
Omaha wai an Impossibility. From the
farmers In the country several reports of
demolished barns , corncribs , and the like
have been received , but no Injuries to per
sons.

The downpour of rain was something won
derful and the sewers and gutters have re
ceived a flushing such as they never before
received.
Numerous telegrams asking about the
damage done by a cyclone and fire , which
was supposed to have occurred this morn
ing , have been received by residents of the
city , and they are out looking for the track
of the mystical storm. A plentiful down
pour of rain was the only unusual feature
of the morning.
IN THE COURTS.
J. Krelsworth , a tailor. Is now In contempt
of court for flaunting before the public a
sign reading "Pants made to order cheaper
than any Lincoln pant company. " There Is
In Lincoln a Lincoln Pants company , which
secured an Injunction restraining Krelsworth
from using the sign , but he came to the con
clusion that the Injunction was a mere form.
Hence his present trouble.
Before Judge Tlbbetts the case of Henry
Stephens against the Lincoln Street Railway
company Is on trial. The plaintiff alleges
that on Sunday , September 11 , 1892 , John
Stephens boarded one of the company's cars
nnd paid the price of a ride. He wanted to
get off at Twenty-fifth .and O streets. He
did so and , passing behind the car from
which he had Just alighted , was struck by
one going in an opposite direction and died
from the effects of his Injuries in a month.
The suit is for $5.000 damages.
The jury In the case of Miss Etta Erb
against tire city returned a verdict In favor
of the city this morning.
Judge Hall Is hearing the cases of the Pee
ple's National bank against Mosher et al. The
plaintiffs have attachments against Moshcr's
property on notes.

A large crowd went down to the depot
this morning to send off the free silver dem
ocrats , of whom about 200 left .for Omaha.
E. E. Bonnelle wants $75 damages from
the city because he ran his horse Into an
open ditch.

ELWOOD , Neb. . June 21. ( Special Tele
gram to The Bee. ) Gosper county was
deluged by rain last night. It being the
heaviest fall since 1802. Since June ID there
has been four rains , aggregating six and
one-half Inches of water by actual measure
ment. Wheat and oats that seemed to be
dead are recovering and will make from
one-third to one-half a crop. Corn is grow
ing very fast , s free from weeds and In ex
cellent condition. The acreage Is the largest
In the history of the county.
LYONS , Neb. , June 21. ( Special to The
Bee. ) This part of Burt county was visited
by a terrible wind storm yesterday morning
about 8 o'clock. Shade trees about town
were torn up and dashed along the streets.
Lightning struck the house of Depot Agent
Durrle and the house vacated last week
by Editor Warner of the Mirror. Reports
from the county show the storm was more
severe there than In town.
PALMYRA , Neb. . June 21. ( Special to
The Bee. ) This town was thrown Into con
siderable excitement and alarm last night
at about 6:30 : o'clock nt the approach of a
heavy cloud from the southwest , but Just
before it reached the town it veered to the
southwest , and beyond the blowing over of
a number of small outbuildings no damage
was done. The storm passing to the south
west struck the new barn of I. J. Nash ,
four miles from town , and completely de
molished it.
SEWARD , Neb. , June 21. ( Special to The
Bee. ) During the rain storm yesterday even
ing a small tornado struck the farm of
Burton Fuller , four miles southeast of Sew
ard , completely demolishing his barn , gran
ary and smoke house , and greatly damaging
his orchard. Frank Cooper was struck by the

Another heavy rain and wind storm started
In about C:30 : last evening. Several trees
In the park and around about the city were
blown down or stripped of limbs. The Mage-
nau bridge across the Elkhorn , three miles
east of the city , was blown Into the river
A barn belonging to Mr. Ostcrinun , just
east of the Elkhorn , was badly wrecked.
Telegraph and telephone pult'i were gener
ally prostrated. A bolt ol lightning struck
the electric light wire and Mid Into the
Elkhorn train dispatcher's olllce , igniting
some papers and burning a hole In the roof
The lire department was called out , but the
employes had extinguished the blaze before
the arrival of the firemen. A portion of the
tin roof of the Eno hotel was blown oil and
the furniture of two rooms considerably
damaged by rain.

Bee. ) Yesterday afternoon and last night
Tobias and vicinity wan vlclted with another
soaking rain , accompanied by the moxt ter
rific winds which blew down nearly all the
windmills In this vicinity. The Bt el frame
mill belonging to the town was twUtod clear
around and fell on the People's bank , dam
aging the bank slightly. The chimneys were
blown off of nearly all the houses In town.
The new house being erected by J. Vetluck
was lifted off Its foundations and turned
half 'round , and everything of a movable na
ture was swept away. About three Inchc * of
rain fell during the storm , which more than
supplies the ncadi of the growing crops , at
this vicinity hat been visited by copious

Lyons show the wind storm yesterday morn
ing was more severe than nt first reported.
Nearly all the windmills were either blown
down or otherwise damaged. A few mllon
north of town the hall damaged crops con
siderably.
All of Burl county was visited by n good
rain last evening , lasting several hours. A
few days ago small grain wng reported nn
entire failure , but since the rnlns several

gram lo The Bee. ) Eighteen Coxeyltes were
arraigned before United States Commissioner
Elmer D. Frank this morning , charged with
interfering with United Stales mall and mo
lesting the property of the Union Pacific
railway at Big Sprlngs.Neb. , on June 14. Four
teen of them pleaded guilty and the others
demanded speedy trial. This afternoon tht >
Wealers were arraigned before Judge Dundy
and Commissioner Frank , charged with steal
ing an engine from the Union Pacific at
Julesburg for the purpose of conveying the
Coxeyites eastward. Subsequently the engine-
was derailed and the trucks broken. A great
many witnesses were questioned by District
Attorney A. J. Sawyer. They swore posi
tively as to the Identity of the men. Their
case was not concluded tonight and court
adjourned until 9 o'clock tomorrow morning ,
at which time the prisoners will have an op-
porlunlly to Introduce testimony. The balance
of the Commonweal will be tried Immedi
ately afterwards and will probably take the
balance of the week before their cases are
concluded. Two of the prisoners arc repre
sented by local counsel. Judge Kelley of
Omaha Is assisting the prosecution.
Chief Coggcshall departed for Omaha to
night. There Is no question that the Union
Pacific Is determined to resist all efforts of
assisting the Coxeyltes out of the country.

convention of the Nebraska Epworth league
was operied here Ihls evening , about 200
delegates being present. At 7:30 : the exer
cises were opened by song service. Prof.
Jay Laverty , president f Trinity Epworth
league , welcomed the delegates , followed by
Mayor Geddes , who had 200 duplicates of
keys to the city , and after a few words of
welcome distributed them as souvenirs. Miss
Corn Turrel of Waverly responded , basing
her remarks on : "Who Are We ? " nnd Hon.
J. AV. Dryden of Kearney answered :
"Whence Are Wo ? " Every preparation
was made to highly entertain the visitors.
