The weekly crop report Issued by Gcorgo
E. Hunt of the Nebraska state weather
service , acting In co-operation with the
United States Weather Uureau for the week
ended Juno IS , says :
Copious rains have fallen In the southeast
section of the state , greatly enhancing all
crop prospects , while the drouth has been
quite generally broken by local showers In
all sections. Prom the northeast section , a
portion of the state which has heretofore
been least affected by the drouth , the re
ports arc unfavorable except as regards corn
and pastures. The corn crop Is In good con
dition throughout the entire otatc , and many
correspondents are of the opinion that the
prospects for an abundant yield have not
been better for a number of years. The
rains came too late In most districts to beef
of any great benefit to wheat and oats , and
those crops will undoubtedly turn out much
below the average. A general Improvement
Is noted In pastures and gardens. Halns
have fallen In the northwest section since
the following reports were mailed , and the
outlook Is favorable for showers In all east
ern Nebrask'a today.
SOUTHEAST SKCTION ,
Butler County Good rains have helped all
vegetation. Corn and pastures In good con
dition. Small grains have Improved , but
crops will bo very short. Cherries will be
full crrp. A large crop of millet Is being
sowed.
Cass County All crops have been bone ,
fitted by late rains. Corn In splendid condi
tion. Potatoes slightly Injured by bugs.
Clay County Corn excellent. Abundant
showers makes evrythlng grow. Cherry
crop good. Wheat Is filling , but very little
will bo long enough to bind.
Fillmore County Good rains made corn
prospects exceptionally good. Wheat and
small grains are practically beyond help. A
large acreage of millet sown.
Gage County Abundant rains have Im
proved all crops and grass. Wheat will be
better than was anticipated.
Jefferson County A favorable week for all
crops. Corn doing splendidly. Wheat and
oats heading , and harvest will be two weeks
earlier than usual.
Johnson County A very favorable week.
An extra good crop of corn Is expscted , but
other crops and grass and apples will be very
short.
Lancaster County The best growing week
of the season. Late oats and wheat filling !
Corn promises an excellent crop.
Nemaha County Corn fine. Wheat filling.
Potatoes good. Apples , average crop ex
pected.
Otoe County All crops Improved by recent
rains except oats , which will bo too short
to cut In many places.
Pawnee County Rye harvest has begun.
Small grains ara filling. Corn growing very
fast. Potatoes are good.
Polk County A good week. Pastures ,
wheat and oats looking better. Corn grow
ing very fast.
Richardson County Wheat harvest has be
gun. Oats growing. Corn doing well.
Saline County All crops greatly bene
fited by the rains. Oats doing well , and
wheat filling fairly , but Is very short. Corn
a good stand. A good crop of cherries.
Saunders County Corn promises a big
yield. Rains have helped small grains and
pastures.
Seward County Abundant rains have made
corn grow vigorously , and oats are Improved ,
but wheat Is too much Injured to be bene
fited much.
Thayer County The best week of the sea
son. Corn growing rapidly. The wheat and
oats that are left are Improving.
York County A dry week. Oats heading
out short. Corn average size. Hay will be
short.
Concordla , Kan A fine week. Wheat
nearly ready for harvest ; a good yield ex
pected. Corn Is splendid.
NORTHEAST SECTION.
Antelope County All crops except corn
are. ruined. Rye , wheat and oats are dried
out beyond recovery. Oats a total failure.
Hurt County Past week very warm and
dry. Corn looking fairly well.
Cedar County Hot and dry ; no rain.
Corn doing well. Small grain short.
Cumlng County Corn In good condition.
Small grain and hay one-half crop.
Dlxon County Corn looking well and
making good growth. Oats and wheat are
practically a failure. Scattered light local
showers. Potato bugs very numerous.
Holt County No rain. Corn not suffering
yet. Small grain generally will not be worth

warmer than usual from New J'Jngland
westward to the lake region , the Ohio nnd

from New York southward. It was cooler
than usual throughout 'the Rocky moun
tains nnd Platte river districts nnd over
the greater portion of the Pacific coast

Mr. Krastus Young over matters connected
with the accounts of the navigation company.

In pleasant terms of the manner In which
thn accounts had been kept and went so far
as to say that he would bo pleased to tnko
care of as many clerks as possible affected
by the transfer of the auditor's otllce from
Oninh.i to Portland as he could find places
for. Conditioned , of course , upon the deslro
of the clerks to leave Omaha for the Sound
country.
While It Is not known definitely , It Is
thought that at least twenty-five clerks wilt
bo minus positions when the Oregon Rail
way and Navigation company receives nn
Independent receiver , and these clerks In the
most part have already slgnllled a willing
ness to move to Portland , which will be
come the headquarters of the navigation com
pany.
Hut speculation docs not end with the
disposition of the clerks In the ofllce of the
auditor by any means , for there are several
men who have headquarters In Portland who
are now on the anxious scat.
H. W. Oaxter , who succeeded McNelll as
general superintendent of the Pacific di
vision , will probably have to walk the gang
plank , but undoubtedly General Manager
Dickinson will find htm a place on nome
other portion of the Union Pacific system.
Uen Campbell , general western freight agent ,
will undoubtedly remain In n similar ca
pacity with the Independent road If he so
desires , or ho may bo made assistant gen
eral freight agent under his old friend , J.
0. Woolworth. who will In all probability
go to the Oregon Hallway & Navigation com
pany as tralllc manager , the position he now
holds with the I own Central , made for hfm
by his chief , Kdwln O'Neill.
What the new management will do with
W. H. Hurlburt , assistant general passenger
agent. Is somewhat ot a question , although
it Is thought In railroad circles that he will
not bo forgotten when the receiver comes to
make up his list of subordinates.
One of the first problems Mr. McNelll will
be called upon tu solve will be the repairs
to the road bed between Umatllla and Port
land , a distance of 1ST miles , which has been
seriously damaged by the recent high waters
In the Columbia. It Is thought the receiver's
first action will be to Issue receiver's cer
tificates for the repairs of the system , which
as estimated will cost anywhere from
$1.000,000 to $1.500,000. these certificates be
coming a first lien on the property.

Durdlck. an alleged ticket scalper , said to
be doing buslnejs In Carbondale , III. , and
who Is made defendant In the suit brought
by the state. Is a myth , and has no * exist
ence , so far as can be ascertained , In Carbon-
dale.

railroads. They further allege that the agents
of the Chicago , Milwaukee & St. Paul and
the Illinois Central are directly responsible
for manipulating the facts to such an extent

whatever , their first knowledge being had
when the decision was handed down. The
