It Is dllllcult to ascertain Just where the falling oft In real estate values In the city can bo located , as slnco making the 1S93 as sessment all of the ward boundaries , with the exception of those of the Ninth , have been changed , new territory having been added to some and taken from others. Tlila Is strikingly Illustrated In the Fifth ward , where this year there seems to have been a great depreciation In values as returned by the assessor of that ward , who has hold the olllce during both years. In 1S93 the southern boundary of the ward extended as far south as Chicago street , thence running cast to the river , taking In the Union I'aclllc shops and many of the large manufacturing establishments on the bottoms. Thursday night the horse thieves raided that section of the town , stealing one horse from Thomas Cun ningham , one from Patrick O'Drlon and three from John Salmqn , all the parlies re siding In the vicinity -Forty-second , nnd Arbor streets. The stealing evidently waa done shortly after midnight , as a few mo ments prior to that time all the horses were seen grazing , though an hour later they were all gone. Who did the stealing Is a mystery , as no trace has been left behind.
