ORADFIELO REGULATOR CO. , AlUnta , Ga. " " " afa g S JL ' Should the Book of the Builders be owned by every person ? Let every reader of The Bee peruse these reasons thoughtfully : / . Because it is the Authoritative Plistory of t the Greatest Mechanical Achievement ever performed by man. The World's Fnir will stand out during tlio lifetime of the pres ent { , 'cnorn.tion as the Eighth Wonder of the World. No ono can appreciate the one hundredth part of its siKiiificancO until ho glances over the pages of the Book of the Builders , it reads lilco a fairy tale. It is more marvelous than the Arubian Nights. Yet it is the simple , truthful chronicle of tlio men whoso genius accomplished it. 2. Because it is the greatest collection of the work of American Artists ever compiled in one volume. Although the Official Photographs of the World's ' Columbian Exposition .were , by vote of the Executive Board , placed ait the disposal of the "Book of the Builders" ( and of no other publica tion ) , it has boon decided to illustrate the book entirely from original sketches oy the loading artists of America. The BeoV Edition will contain Ono Hundred Popular Pull-Pago Re productions in fac-sitnilo colors of Original Paintings of the Landscape , the Buildings and the bccnes of human interest at the World's Fair , executed by fifty artists selected by the Board of Executive Control aa the leading artists of America. T hero will also bo several hundred sketches and drawing' , in black and white by fifty-eight illustrators justly entitled to rank as the loading Illustrators of America. , / 3. Because it can be secured at * a cost of only one cent ( and a fraction ) per day. By the terms ot the private arrangement entered into with the Columbian Memorial Publication Society , THE BEE controls the exclusive sale of the Popular Edition of the ' 'Book of the Btiild- orn" in this section. Tlio work is to bo published in Twenty-five Parts , appearing fortnightly. Every subscriber to THE BEE has the right to purchase ono complete copy at the merely nominal price of Twenty-five Cents a part ( Thirty Cents if ordered by mail ) . This covers only the actual cost o production and does not include the society's charges , royalties to authors , copyright ? , etc. , all of which are paid by THE BEE. Persons can secure nny part by cutting from the columns of THE BEE SIX coupons ( six daily of dilTorcnt dates ) and bringing or sending same to THE BEE MEMORIAL DEPARTMENT , to gether with Twenty-live Cents ( Thirty Cents If ordered by mail ) . Chief of 1'ollco Dronnnn made his first oniclnl move yesterday by appointing John Van Wlo captain of pollco. Captain Van Wlo Is ono of the old , trusty nnil over clll- clcnt members of the police force nnd his appointment will give general satisfaction among all persons who deslro nn effective pollco force. Thus far every .appointment made by the now administration has boon well received. Hrcnnan has resigned his position with the Union Stock Yards company. The police force will bo healed down un der Mr. Johnston's administration to eight or ten men all told. Mayor Johnston will try the efficiency of eight good pollco offi cers , and believes that number sufficient for the present needs of the city , considering the city's ability to pay salaries. Thla move , too , will not only meet the approval of the Taxpajers league , but the citizens generally. No change has yet been made In the flro department nnd none will bo for the pres ent , but when the change conies , us It soon will , the chief will bo nn olllcor of the past and the department will bo placed under command of ono of the regular lire- men with rank of captain. Street Commissioner Joseph M. Tobias has sent In his resignation to Mayor John ston. This ofllco Mill bo left vacant nnd unless some pressing occasion requires tl-o salary of that oillcer will bo saved to the city under the new regime. Mr. Tobias has been a careful nnd Industrious official. The popularity of Thomas Iloctor , who succeeds himself , la attested by the largest majority on the ticket , and that , too , against ono of the best and strongest men In the city , and also , by receiving the largest vote over given any ono In South Judge James M. Fowler made moro friends and antagonized fewer persons dur ing his presiding over the pollco court than any other official ever In the city. Judgu Fowler's record Is as creditable to the city as It Is worthy of hlnibolf. City Clerk Henry Ditzon , by his courteous nnd obliging ways , won a friend In every man who had business with that city ollice , nnd Mr. Muly will do \ ell to keep up the commendable pace. City Attorney Van Uusen gets credit ns being ono of the mos.t efllclent of the defenders - fenders of the city's legnl Interests. Bvon enemies of the Into administration glvo Mr. Van Duson credit for conscientiously nnd successfully protecting the city from largo and Illegal claims. All of the new members of the city coun cil , except Henry Mlos , liavo had experi ence In municipal affairs , nnd n all aru thoroughly familiar with the city's condi tion and wants , there is no rcafcon why the now council should not meet the ex pectations of Its frlonds. Of course Coun cilman Ilulla , Walters , llyan and Mica feel elated , as they each received several hundred votes moro than was ever before cast for a councilman. This la not only a compliment , but to tlireo of them endorse ments of their past municipal records. ATnrrlngoof Air , llopltlns anil MU Milllvun.
