TUESDAY , April 3.
Supplies of all klndn were very moderate
today. 80 fnr tills week , compared with
last , there linn been n slight Increase In
cattl" nnd sheep and n falling off of nearly
2000 IIOK *
Receipts of cattle were not nt nil heavy ,
lint as the proportion of western feeders
van munller tlmn on Monday the supply of
beef was about as coed as nt that time.
Kastern markets were In better nhapo nnd
Hjieculatlve shippers nnd buyers for eastern
butchers were out early nfter the cattle.
Thp drcs/icd beef men , counting on the pres
ent nnd prospertlve nmplo supplies , were In
no hurry to buy , but ns outside buying began
to lewen their efmnccs of filling their orders
they were readier to trade. The market be
came nctlvo nnd sales were made nt prices
anywhere from firm to Sc nnd lOc higher.
As usual the good , light und medium weight
ulcers were In the best demand nnd told to
the best advantage , while BOIIIO of the coin-
jnoner nnd heavier grades showed little If
tny Improvement. There was n good ,
Strong undertone to the trade , and while the
'arly business win none too brisk the mar
ket , closed up active and strong , with practic
ally everything out of llrst hands before
noon.
There was a very poor showing of cow
B'tiff ' , not much over fifteen loads , nnd It
Old not take buyers for local houces very
long to pick them up on the basis of
steady to n shade stronger prices. Calves
were In pretty liberal supply , but sold about
ns well ns on Monday. Hough stock met
with n good demand and n sternly sale at
prices If anything a shade firmer nil
around.
In stnckers and feeders the trade was list
less anil very unsatisfactory. Yard traders
liad n big supply on hand und country buy
ers with good orders were not very numer
ous. Trade was decidedly dull and drag
ging , and only a small volume of business
\viis trmiKncted , nnd mostly on the liu&ls
Of shaded prices , anywhere from a dime to
n quarter lower than ten days ugo. Oood
tci choice feeders are quoted at $ U.OOi3.tO : ;
inlr to good at $2.75 < & 3.00 , and lighter , com
moner grades at from $2.75 down.

HOGS Dealers generally were somewhat
disappointed at the comparative smnllne.ss of
tlio supply today. HerolptB foil nil of 3,000
idiort. of last Tuesday's run , but 'niado up In
quality what they Inched In quantity. The
market was higher east , there was an nctlvo
ihlppliiK and appculatlvo demand and al
though prices are relatively higher hero
limn at other western points local houses
Imvo to Imvo them. Iluslncxs opened out
tolerably active ut n fie to lOc advance , but
under the Influence of free buying the mar
ket rapidly braced up and cloxed all of lOc
higher than Monday , with the pens empty
by 10 o'clock. Ouo heavy buteher load
brought $4.60 and several lo.ula Bold for $4.4C
early , but the big bulk of the trading was
it fl.GO and 54.03 , ngulUHt $1.40 and $4.45
resterday nnd onn week ago today.

NEW YOHK , April 3. The movement of
the stock market today was not IntorcHtliiK
to tlio street at larse. The speculation
wr.s spiritless ami larcely conllneil to the
room traders , who worked with less con
cert of action than usual , r.omlon was
not represented very largely In the dealIngs -
Ings , ami was , perhaps , more of a seller ,
than buyer , some of the recent purchasers
liquidating their holillug * . The market was
of that halting , hesitating character which
often precedes a decided movement In the
direction of lower prices , but the most un
favorable symptom yet developed Is the dp-
crease In the foreign buying. The leader
of the market was. . Missouri Pacific , which
was bought heavily1 ; It Is believed , for the
account of an Inafde , lnterest , sending the
price up 2i per cent , i with a flnnl reaction
Of % per cent. The 'grangers ' made frac
tional gains during the morning , but fell
off. In the afternoon * -Hosing at a decline
of % to % per icojitj on yesterday's Dual

The industrials wore comparatively neg
lected and moved 'irregularly , Chicago Cas !

advance were : Delaware & Hudson , 1 %

Delaware , hackawanlia" . & Western , which
lost 1 per cent , wasjtlic only stock In which
the decline was above a fraction. Colorado
Fuel and Iron preferred sold at B9 , an advance -
vance of 9 per cent from the lust previous
salo. In the final dealings the market was
improved In tone and closed very llrm. Com
paring the llnal figures with those of yester
day , as many stocks are found to bo below
the line as above It. The report of the
Canadian Pacific for the year ending De
