Cmc.ioo , .Inn. 24. Wheat was compara
tively steady during tlio greater part , of the
session and llrm toward the close. The hopes
of the bulls , which yesterday were completely
covorcil under n blanket of snow , row npala
nt noon whnn Hrmlstrcot's vlHlblo supply
showed that the country elevator stocks , out
side of those Included in ttio ofllciul visible
supply , had been drawn upon last wcolt to
the extent of JiTl,000 bu. The eloso was , ' 40
above last nlzht's figure * .
Horn shook oil a lonj ? depression and rose
; . | i' , retaining all but } Q of that at the close.
Outs wcro also firm and gained J c for May.
Provisions were dull and easier.
The wheat market was narrow. There
was n very 11-it condition of trade as far as
outside orders were concerned. Scarcely a
mi'.sseiiijor approached the pit with dis
patches , The voiutno of trade was the
lightest in weeks. The trade had counted
on Home activity and strength following the
cold wave , but the cold wuvo was preceded
by swell general snowfall tnat all talk of
uamawo was at an end. The movement was
In no way different from previous days. The
northwestern points had liberal receipts in
view of the snow storm. After the depres
sion caused by light export clearances there
wus seine recovery on account of the bullish
report of Uradstrcet on available stocks ,
being a decrease of 707.000 bu. on both
rousts. The May price starccd at G3e.
u.iieliod Gif'tiic ! ( : , went to ( lie , weakened
to 03" e , and again firmed to tlio best price
of HID day at the close , at ( > K ; ? 51Jd'o.
Thorn wus good strcmrtli i'n corn. While
wheat was showing no sign of a bull market ,
corn moved up c easily on its merits. The
May option opened a fraction up at BS 'i * ,
went to JMfSjfe , reacted a little and again licKl
strong. ' 1 ho receipts were very light. Bal
timore cleared nearly JiOD.OJO bu. About the
oniy uear iicm was ino increase 01 , u-iuuuu
Ini. in available stocks. This was expected.
Heforo the close there was renewed buying
nml the May price went to IlSJ c.
There was a liberal trade in oats and a
( Inner feeling , duo to sympathy with corn
mid owing to small receipts. There was
peed covering by shorts and also realizing
by parties who bought on the recer.t break ,
but the offerings were readily absorbed and
prices advanced % u for Muy and closed about
the top.
In pork dullness and weakness were the
features. The packers were the prinoipal
traders. The opening sales exhibited a dc-
cline of fie from yesterday's closinc prices ,
followed by a drop of 2' c. A reaction of
7'.jC ' followed on a little buying , but it would
not hold , the market casing off 5c for the
lack of support. A few orders were llllod
latter , which advanced the marKet to f 1R.23.1. ;
for May. Lard opened Be lower and fluctu
ated within n range of 2 , ' e. closing weak at
f7,57l-j. May ribs were dull and lower , clos
ing firm at JO.O'X.
Kstimntcd receipts for tomorrow. Wheat.
70 cars ; corn , 00 cars ; oats. 50 cars : hogs ,

at no tlmo was the pressure to sell very

demand early in the day on rumors that the
earnings for the third week in January
would show ft smaller porcontngo of de

the amount of yesterday's sales. General
ruin of American Sugar interests was tlio
burden of the tatlc on thu exchange as the
natural consequence of free sugar , but all

lions Heceipts were very light , less than
a third as many ns were hero on last Wed
nesday , but the quality was fair with the
weight slightly heavier us a rule. With
less than 2,500 hogs on sale nil told , packers
were hardly very much interested in the

nnd the fresh moat trade absorbed the
meager offerings. Kastorn markets wore
