Temper ol .Sppciiliition In Scutirlilei Was Much liupriivad. Iscw YOUK , Dec. 2'J. ' The temper of specu lation on the Stock exchange today was much Improved , the pressure to sell was at no time pronounced , except , perhaps ; as to Atchlson , and n majority of the shares traded in recorded an udvaneo on the day's transactions. Atchison was sold freely on a report that the plan of reorganization to bo proposed would call for on assessment of $10 a share. This , coupled with a ruinor that a big block of stock was to be marketed , in duced a movement to sell , which was par ticipated in by both the long and short in terests. The result was a decline of " } { per cent , tlio lowest point being touched in the linal dealings , and tlicro was only ! 4' per cent rally at the close. Boston and the west were both sellers of Atcnison. There was an active speculation in St. Paul , and tlio bears made several de termined drives at tlio stock , but never depressing - pressing the price more than % per cent below the opening , and the stock lost ' 4' per cent on the day. Of the other granger shares , Chicago , Burlington & Quiucy re corded un advance of 1 per cent , St. Paul & Omaha I1. , per cent , and Korh Island and Northwestern "H per cent. The general market opened weal : , but closed fairly llrm , and in the interim the lluclinlions , which were frequent , but not very wide : i a rule , tended toward higher Ilgurcs , and tiio Until dealings showed u pretty general advance of ' 4 to 'J'jJ per cent , in which I-ouisvillu , Ss Nashville , IJelawaro & Hudson , St. Paul & Omaha , Chicago Gus and Burlington wcro most prominent. The Post says : Influenced by the pre vailing ami not , illogical belief that the end of tlio critical slram of uncertainty Is near at hand , speculators who have been selling the inrnkot brought in stock pretty Iro- qucntly today. The supply from upprc- hcnsivo ordisinleiestcd holders seemed to bo fairly largo , but the demand was heavy ennuL'h to force many substantial advances. Tliero was nothing that could not bu turned over at , former prices , nor was lucre anything for which buyers were willing to pay any consid erable advance. The receipts , vrFilch ourly In the day wore estimated ut H.OOO , turned out to be fully 2,000 short of that number , but them were enough cattle to go jttouud. Neither local nor eastern buyers appeared to need many. The receipts of sheep nxhlhlt a very radical falling oft" , the total for the last week helng only 30,000 , This is only a little mom lliun half the weekly uverugo for lho lust MX months , but wo tire uniihlu to note any Im portant udvnnco in prices as a losult of com paratively small receipts. The I'cot sucar factory anil refinery no\v seems to bu an nssured ftu-t. Count I.ul- ! cnski anil the citizens committee signed the agreement yesterday , nml nrtlirlcs of incor- lioration for the Omulia licet Supurcompaiiy were prepared and will be lilcd within twenty-four liouvs. Count Lubienski was seen at the Mercer .vostcrdny oy a reporter. Ho expressed cratiliL'ation at the progress maitu ami said there was now no doubt of the success of the venture jf the farmers would encourage it. "I hiivo met the sub-conimlttoo iippointod by tlic citi/.ens committed of twenty-one and completed all preliminary contract ar- rangonieiils , " said the fount with oviilent enthusiasiu. "Tho agreement made is iden tical with the .0110 published in Tnc UKE the other day , which W.IB adopted at the ineclinir of the citizens uommittooof twenty-one , held at tlio Commercial club. There was no hitch anywhere in the agreement and overythui ! ? passed off smoothly. I sec no reasons for delay in having this factory orcctcd as soon as possible , and 1 shall t-'O to Chicago to night for the purpose of seeing some of my associates in the enterprise. I will return to Omaha in .lanuary and leave for Kuropo in February. If tlu citi/.ens of Douglas county show the right spirit in this matter , I will commence the construction of the factory in Anril , Ib''l ' , instead of waiting until IS'.l.V Tliero is no reason why construction should not ho pushed at once. My associates nny do a little kicking about the fact that no guaranty of the acreage of beets lias been made , but 1 am confident Unit 1 can over come their objection in tills respect by showIng - Ing the records of the mooting of the citizens committee , the organi/.alion of a beet growers association and the filing of articles of incorporation of the Oniulm Hnnt , Sugar factory. Thu articles of incorpora tion will probtbly ho signed by Or. Mercer , 1C. A. lionson and myself among others. Tliero will bo no difficulty in Dotting sub scriptions for stock after the company is lopally incorporated. 'Now , a word about labor. Tliero are a largo number of unemployed i'olisii work- ingincn familiar ivith labor of this character , who are now in needy circumstances at Chicago cage , Milwaukee and elsewhere , if any ob jection was inado to bringing Polish labor from Kurope , on the grounds of violating the contract labor law , those unemployed Poles now on American soil could bo used. There is also it great deal of idle American labor around Oinalni , and I am in favor of putting all idle hands at wont when the in dustry is started. Hoot uugar culturu and the Jactory will bo a great blessing to labor as well as a Judicious investment of capital. It will benefit this community. " I ) , J , O'Donahue said that the project had assumed dollnito shape and that what was now needed was co-operation of the farmers. Ho said Unit the citizens should como to the front and assist in bocurlng contracts with farmers to assure lho desired acreage of boots. The articles of Incorporation place the capital stock of the Omaha Iteot Hugar fac tory at SMO.OOt ) In fl shares ; principal oOlco in Omaha j business to bo in lho hands of llvo directors. The location of the factory to bo decided upon by local stockholders and Count Lubienskl. Uvory effort will bo made to obviate any real cstato scheme in locating the factory on its si to.
