The meeting of the protecllvo board of the

The meeting will extend into October , as
General Manager Dickinson will not bo homo

a great deal to do and will have everything
in excellent condition to present to the gen

Whether a labulalod statomcnt ot the

Fight llotwoou Southern 1'aclllo Lines and
the AtchUou .Sottled.
CHICAGO , Sept. 21. The rate war between
Iho Atchlson aud Southern Paclllo Hues has
ended and rates will go back lo lliolr old
basis October 1. General Passenger Agent
Goodman of the Southern Pacific today
wired the onico of that road in.Chicago that
the entire matter had been adjusted and
that rates would go back to the old standard
after Iho expiration of the customary ten
days notice. The result is a victory for the
Atchlson road in every part of the dispute.
The western lines are already beginning
to consider Iho question of rates to the mid
winter fair to bo hold in San Francisco. It
is yet too early to specify action , but the
probability is that the existing castbound
rates to the World's fair will bo made good
for the westbound trip to the California ex
position.

interstate commerce commission by the
ofllcials of the Itock Island regarding the
Cquncil Bluffs bridge arbitrary , Mr. Johnson
stalcd.that ho had understood a loiter had

to discuss anything but the weather , and
when asked about the arbitrary , shut up like
a clam.
Mr. George Crosby , general freight agent
of the Burlington , was somewhat doubtful
of the outcome of an attempt to abolish the
arbitrary nnd so stated. "I do not believe
the interstate commission made the state
ment applied to them and if tlioy did 11 was
only in an unofficial way , I am salislled of
llint. This bridpo will have to be paid and
distance shoots of Iowa makes a live miles
difference between Council Bluffs nnd
Omaha , which will always exlsl. "
