wns ( jlvi-ii the wheat I ratio In Iho oxporls.
The \\holo crowd prnrtlcall.v snltl out on the
theory that the clearances had pult'fcd out.
An hour Inter the wheat nnd Hour for tlio
day reached nearly 7XIKN ( ) , ) bu. The mnrkot
recovered from a loss of Jjfr. and closed only
jjc lower than It did yostprdny.
Corn und oats wrru very strong , more
Gspct-lnlly the hitter , which elosid at n gain
ot X1'- Corn advanced about 'a'c. I'rovis-
Ions wrru weak.
Wheat at the opening wns weaker nnd
prices 141-lower , followed by a further do-
cllno el from , ' 41- to f 'e , then became
stronger , and prlcus wort1 advanced from ) < :
to lo , uasod tilt slightly , and the
closing was steady. The parly de
cline was attributed to the lower Liver
pool c.ibles nnd continued liquidations of
local lonjjs and inline-need Homo liy the belief
that tlipro was time yet for seedliifr.
Kanners were reported to bo M'llliiK more
freely In the winter wheat country , but the
decline In prices seemed to develop a good
demand. Some of the parties who had sold
short evidently wanted to eoveramJ buying
orders worn received from Now York. In
addition to the fuel that thorleiirancu.s were
larger It wus rumored tnat reports from the
northwest Indicated a letting up In receipts.
H was also said that rains were not as gen
eral and did not cover as wiilu a territory as
expected.
Iho demand for carloads of corn In the
cash crowd was active. Armour & Co. and
other oluviilor concerns computing with the
nhlpners for the offerings. That'appeals to
be the true linvnrdnens of the bullish feel
ing. The heavy receipts have so lur com
manded a ready market and stocks do not
uceunmlale to a great extent. 1'coplo who
have been waiting for a break In prices on
iiccount of tbo great receipts , to tret posses
sion of nn nrtlclo they think will sell much
holier , appear to liavo hecoino impatient ,
ami believing in it any way , arc willing to
start in from Us present level.
There was an active trade of the spas-
mod Io order In oats. Opening trades were
on a weak market at ' 40 decline for the
nctlvo and May receded J c moro , hut be
came stronger on good buying by shipping
houses and shorts. Thu exports of UiU.SM )
bu. from Now York , higher prices there r. ml
a good cash demand hero started values up
und they advanced 1 'fo. ' On the bulge there
was good selling by sonic of thn early buvers
nnd prices icccucit from j'a'c ' toji'o und closed
steady.
In provisions packers showed an Inclination
to sell January produce , out there wus no
one to unload it upon ; local operators would
have none of it and there were no orders
from tlio outside. Perhaps not over one
dozen transactions were recorded all day.
Pork is nominally 15o lower for near delivers
and 1'Ju off for January. Lard is SJ-j'u lower
for Soptuinbor , l.r > e lower for Octoliur and
lOc lower for January. liibs for Sep.ember
ore down V 'e , October 2c and January

There were very few tintlvo cattle on sale ,

not far from steady ou all useful

litislncss was fairly lively and the tone of
the trade llrni , but owltiR to t'.to Into ar
rival of many of the entile , tlio movement
was delayed and there were a few cattle
still uu old at the close.
Oflors of butchers' stuff and canncrs were
comparatively liberal and the feeling was
somewhat easier , prices cuorally shading
lower on all urades. A bi RlritiK of very
good 1'at western cows sold at JJ.H.'i , and the
bulk of the dcslrahlo cow stuff changed
hands at around SLW and $2.10. with the
common and canning grades nl $1.25 to $1.7f > .
Calves at from SI. 75 to $3.75 were rather
easier , while rough slock sold at steady to
sirotm prices , common to choice bulls , oxen
and stags bringing from $1.50 to 5.50.
The activity in feeders keeps up well.
Although both fresh ami stale supplies to
day were liberal there. was no letup in the
demand and thu liberal offerings were noiiu
too ample for tliQ requirements of the trade ,
Prices were if anything a shade stronger on
the peed grades und fully as high as recently

cattle will go to the country as n result.
