The people plo of the city of Altaruont , in this county , are in a state of great excitement - mont over the dlscovory that Leo But ler , cashier of C. M. Wright & Oo.'a bank , has absconded with all the availa ble funds of the bank. Ho informed his wife Saturday evening that ho was going to Cumberland county to look after land and would return Sunday evening. S. N. Young received a letter Monday from Butler , mailed at Chicago , contain ing some legal papers relative to Mrs. P. Ensign's children and a letter to Mrs. Butlor. Mr. Young wont immediately to the bank , where ho found Dr. Wright , president of the bank , who had just como down from home. On being in formed by Mr. Young of the contents of the loiter , lie opened the safe , when it was discovered that almost the entire assets of the bank had disappeared , amounting to from 341,000 to $47,000. Several of the business men of the city lost largo amounts and many indi viduals minor sums. Butler was school treasurer and banker for the Woodmen , which funds are also gone. The city and township funds are also gone , as well as the funds of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The Building and Loan association lost heavily.
