HuBinpss failures throughout the United
States during the past three months , as re
ported to Hradstrcet's , number ll.utVJ , a
smaller total , with ono exception , than has
been similarly reported for eleven years.
The total liabilities of Individual llrms and
corporations falling during the past quarter
aggregated SiO.lgl.tTiS , nn Increase of ? J,5'W ,
000. Total assets show an increase of about
11 per cent , showing relatively larger in
crease In available assets than In indebted
ness and pointing to some failures h.iving
been precipitated through embarrassment of
others.
While thorn were nearly sixty failures in
the United States during the past three
mouths with liabilities each of $100.000 or
more , and about the aamo num
ber during a like period in 1S02 ,
the more serious character of
some of those taldng placcjjthls year will bo
observed when it Is known their aggregate
liabilities for lsuis ; ! in excess of SI'JWOOOJ ; ,
compared with less than $ lt.J)00 : ( ) ( ) ( ) in the
first iiiirter | : of lsli. ! In the west and north
I'aeillc coasts and territories there have been
moderate gains in the number of failures.
While the New Knsland and middle states
show an improvement as to the number ot
failures , they furnished increased liabilities ,
There was a small increase in liabilities on
the I'aeilie eo.ist. but these were more than
offset by reductions in western states , in the
northwestern states and in the territories.
There were thirty-three fewer failures In
tlie Dominion of Canada than a like period in
1M.1 ) , and the aggregate liabilities have
fallen off a tnlle. The total assets show a
relatively greater degree of solvency this
year. Nova Scotia also returns fewer
failures with a marked reduction of
liabilities. liritlsh Columbia reports u re
duction In the number of failures , but an in
crease in total liabilities.

, Minn , March 31. The
Northwestern Miller says : The larger ca
pacity in service last week resulted in push-
hit ' , the Hour output upward a notch. The
week's production was 187,000 barrels ,
against 17-1 . ( US barrels the week before , and
101,1)00 barrels for the corresponding time in
IS'JS , and iWfri : barrels in IS'Jl. This is
probably the heaviest run the mills ovnr
made for the last week in March. A con
siderably lighter capacity is in motion
this week. Several of tlio mills are
holding oiT for a better water power ,
and , besides this , the Hour market is
in a most unsatisfactory condition. It will
probably bo a week or ten days baforo there
is plenty of water for all. The Hour market
Is exceptionally dull and unsatisfactory ,
l-'or a week back local nulls have lacked a
good deal of selling us much as they ground.
Cash wheat in the past four weeks has ad
vanced fi to 7 cents in the Minneapolis nvir-
ket and the Hour bu.ver , not having any con-
lldenco in the higher prices , sits back
aim awaits developments. This is par
ticularly true with the foreigner. The
export business done the past week was
very small. When cash wheat was selling
in Minneapolis at ( U cents exporters began to
show some interest in Hour , but when quota
tions were advanced to correspond with ( l."i
and 07-cent wheat these people were fright
ened on" . Low grades are weak and very
slow of sale , being quotable at 1.10 ami
$1.0 per KHi pounds. The direct export
shipments Oy the mills last week were -T.J-
HO barrels against -17,030 barrels the lire-
ceding week ;
