A Wnshlnpton si > o- lul says : The roircscntutivci | of thu lawailau provisional government will , it the earnest favorable inoinent , cull he attention of the administration to ho pending treaty of annexation. They do not expect that the treaty will he withdrawn. Of course , Mr. Cleveland nay withdraw it from the senate as ho withdrew the reciprocity treaties with South American states which President iVrthnr had negotiated when ho entered upon ills olllco elicit rears ago. Ono of the Hawaiian commissioners said yesterday , however , that he did not anticipate such notion. The fuct that the treaty was not considered owing to ilomocriiti ? opposition in the senate was not to be interpreted , in his opinion , as indicating that the donuicralio party would oppose annexation us u policy. It simply meant that it desired moro tlmo to o insider it , and that the democrats preferred to have the islands annexed , if they are to bo annexed at all , under a democratic rather than a republican ad ministration. Moreover , there are some reasons for thinking that President Cleveland is disposed to have a commis sion sent to the islands to make a thorough investigation and report the condition of affairs before a llnnl decision shall be reached as to the policy the present lulminislratlon will recommend. The arrival of Princess Kainlaiii , the so-called heiress-apparent to the throne of Hawaii , is not likely to have any marked olfeet or inllueiice hero. The guardian of the young princess , Mr. Duvies. said one of the Hawaiian commis sion. is "an English fanatic,1' who seems to bo very much elevated by the fact that ho lias us u ward a princess of the Sandwich islands. Tlio commissioner had called upon him in New York and found him exceedingly .supercilious and arrogant in manner. He undoubtedly has made a grave mistake in tlio inter ests of his ward in coming hero to America , especially in exhibiting his of- fensivo British manners. : He Has given emphasis to the fact that those who are opposing annexation arc acting in Brit ish interest. Recent statements made hero by the direct representative of the deposed queen , Mr. Neuman , would seem to indi cate that he will not make a very earnest effort in her interests. He was asked whether or not the queen expected a restoration , and he answered most em phatically that ho expected the islands would pass sooner or later into the hands of the United States. It is evi dent that his object here is to secure the bust terms possible with this country. The views of Mr. Cleveland himself have not been expressed on the subject of Hawaii , neither since ho was president nor before. The representatives of the Hawaiian government , however , point to a mere passage in his message in 188 ! ) , as indicating that ho believes the ulti mate destiny of Hawaii is to bo a part of the United States. Some of these who are in the im mediate surroundings of Mr. Cleveland , notably Don M. Dickinson , are earnestly talking in favor of annexation. Mr. Dickinson , who by reason of his residence near the border in Detroit , has become very much interested in Ciumnian matters , has expressed the opinion that before the Cleveland ad ministration is ended a movement will bo inaugurated which will inevitably re sult in the annexation of Canada. Mr. Olnoy is said by some to bo an en thusiastic annexationist and there are many eminent democrats who will not full to call tlio attention of Mr. Cleveland - land to the fact that all the annexations of territory which have ever been made to the United States , except that which resulted from the purchase of Alaska , have been accomplished under demo cratic administrations , und that the party which has opposed them is the ono which has generally mot with national defeat.
