The Unity club of the First Unitarian
church of this city Is carrying on an exten

and inclinations , reaching and helping a very
largo number of persons , sending its uplift

The entire schcmo of work for the year
extends from October to April , which in
cludes twenty-four Friday evenings with
their fruitful programs.
The club works In three sections and each

in its main plan. The twenty-four weeks
being equallyallotted gives eight evenings to
each division.
Under Mr. William S. Curtis , the art sec
tion labors in a manner ut once most pains
taking nnd enthusiastic. By moans of cuts ,
casts , etc. , as well as through carefully prepared -
pared papers , read before the section , they
are working toward a higher appreciation
and comprehension of art.
The history section , under the leadership
of Miss Ilono E. Hamilton , is studying the
Reformation. To cover the period of the
Reformation in eight evenings necessitates
the most careful outlining and concentric
study upon phases of the subject to bo
brought prominently forward. See-
"ohm's "Bra of Protestant Reforma
tion" has been adhered to as a text book.

A Washington correspondent says : Two
or thrco weeks ago when Mrs. Russell Harrison
risen and her Httlo daughter Marthena , who
had boon 111 with scarlet fever , loft the
white house and went to a hotel to give the
health ofllcera a chance to fumigate the
quarters they had been occupying , they loft
n lot of personal effects In their rooms.
There were a number of pieces of valuable
bric-a-brac clock which had not
- - , a now gilt ,
been taken from the original case in which
it was shipped to them , some beautiful
pieces of cut glassware , a chest full of wear
ing apparel , n brand new leather hat box , In
which was a now hat , some Jewelry and all
these Httlo things of beauty which a woman
will collect in her private apartments. Mrs.
Harrison also loft In the wardrobes a num
ber of goods which she wanted fumigated.
It seems that the health oftlcer sent to the
apartments vacated by Mrs. Harrison and
her child the dog catching force at the city
building. "They toro out the carpets ,
draperies , etc. , and piling them in a heap'
applied the torch. They even went so far
in their destruction as to pry up a part of
the floor in an Adjoining hallway and found
under it a small iron safe or chest fastened
with a Ynlo lock , containing no one knew
what. This was loft in the custody of
Mnlor Prudcn , the executive clerk.
Mr. Russell Harrison called at the health
ofllco to ascertain what had been done with
the personal effects of Mrs. Harrison and his
daughter , nnd was told they had all been
destroyed. Ho asked to see a list of the
articles destroyed and found that it con
tained only the sheets , blankets , pillows , and
a few other articles of bedclothing belonging
to the government. What had become of
Mrs. Harrison's effects could not bo learned.
Why the clock , jewelry and clothing wore
taken was n mystery. There wcro also
books taken and a lot of memoranda kept by
the president's late wife. Mr. Harrison has
inado a ucmand for the missing goods , and
the health ofllccr has Instituted u search.
