THE BIOMSM I3MY GOC ASSEMBLY WEEK GAYETIES Tunotions That Have Drawn the Tire of Swell Maids and Men. COMING EVENTS THEIR SHADOWS CAST llrllllant Itccoptlon In Honor of MUs Van Fatten Mm. Cucliihy Kntortalns for Ilor Nlecrs Mn. HoyU'a Plcailng Afternoon Personal Chat. Assembly week has been particularly pleasant from a social standpoint , a number of delightful functions bringing out tlio men nnd women who malco society ns much of a business as they do the law , medicine , dry goods , ad Inllnitum. Of course the distinctive ov nt of the week was the Assembly , which t'.i is year Is enjoy ing n revival of Intcres ! , and popularity. "While not so brilliant as on the occasion of the Princeton collegians' visit still the most exacting social ncopliy to could not find fault with Its brilliancy or the beauty of the women. Out.sido of the accident which happened to Miss Stewart the Assembly went olT wcH , thcro being enough strangers to make it interesting. The few other events kept the swells on the qui vivo and our visitors had a fair opiwrtunity to judge of what the Omaha four hundred really arc. * It Is a matter of considerable regret that the ladles who arc interested in raising the money for the purchase of the silk Hag that is to lly from tlio staff on the Nebraska building nt the World's fair ro meeting with so little success. While any one of the ladles Interested could give the amount necessary for the purchase of the flag ( $50) ) nnd not feel the donation , they rightly de cided upon asking donations fixnc the women of Omaha , anything from 10 cents to a dollar being acceptable. As yet but 510 have been raised by popular subscription. This matter uhould bo otio of city prluo and the women should resold more generally than they huvo to the appeal of Mrs. II. W. Yules who has assumed the duties of treasurer. The Ansoiiilily. Although not so largely attended as on December 29 , the Assembly Tuesday evening was ono of the pleasantcst dancing affairs of the series , thcro being Just enough peoplu present to make the evening thoroughly do- Ilghlful. It Is very much doubted If thcro over has been so inuny flowers worn ns on Tuesday evening "worn" in this , case being synony mous with carried , nearly all of the belles nnd dpwaeors , who still are In their dancing days , bearing huge bouquets of handsome rosoa , violets and other hot house favorites. And the gowns theru wore lots of now and handsome ones nnd the girls looked moro be witching than ever , which is sufllcicnt proof that as wo crow older wo improve in the art of dressing well. Then thcro were the over enticing debutantes , several of whom this season nulto carry off the honors for beauty and brilliancy , so that with all these favor- oblo conditions , pleasing decorations nnd n good supper , the dancers quite enjoyed the third assembly of the season. Yet the brightness of the evening was greatly shadowed by the distressing acci dent that occurred to MUs Stewart of Coun cil Bluffs , who while dancing In the lancers slipped , spraining her ankle very badly , the young lady fainting from the severe pain , The accident following close uwn her adventure of a year ngo makes It doubly distressing , as the young lady will undoubtedly have to re turn to her crutches , which society had hoped she had discarded forever.
