Prof. John Reynolds , the well known mesmerist , gave olio of his performances at the opera house last evening. The audience had been led to expect something Interesting , if not strictly scientific , and it was not dis appointed , The professor was considerably hampered at first by a lack of subjects , The people in the audience seemed to bo afraid of W'ustlng themselves In his power for fear of something happening that would destroy their dignity. There was nothing in any of his tests , however , that would shock oven a sensitive person and that fact was Impressed upon the observers as the exhibition went on. There were several subjects whom ho brought under partial control , but there worn only two or three with whom the results were perfectly satisfactory. Those few , howover. ho used at his own sweet will , making them give exhibitions of roller skating , carry babies , see snakes without the aid of liquor of any kind , talk through imaginary tele phones , and do numberless other things which" to the audience were ridiculous enough , but were plainly matteisof the great est importance to the subjects. One of the most interesting , feats was the flglit of J. J. Corbett , alias Bruce Welkcr , with Peter Jackson's shadow , which resulted disas trously to Mr. Corbett , and when Mr. Weluer announced himself as a candidate for mavor of Council Bluffs on the prohibition ticket there was a sensation. Altogether the en tertainment was highly satisfactory , and If the building had been heated so that people could have doffed their wraps there would have been nothing to llnd fault with. All the streams are frozen. The poor are suffering keenly. The de pression of trade has left tens of thousands unemployed. In Berlin alone more than 100.000 can find no employment. Horrible stories come from the remoter regions of Europe , and especially the Balkans , of death and suffering caused by the severity of the winter. In Kervla the wolves have abandoned the forests and prowl alxmt the streets In towns and villages In search of prey. A young man was devoured by wolves in the suburbs of Belgrade , and the animals have actually ap peared in the streets of the city. la Montenegro packs of wolves have at tempted to enter the sheep folds , refusing to retreat when fired upon by the peasantry. Dispatches from KussH state that there Is great suffering In the provinces where the famine prevailed last year , the people having been too much weakened by their former sufferings to make sufficient provision for food and fuel for the winter. In Russia , also , the wild animals , made desperate by hunger and cold , have Invaded the villages and devoured both human beings and do mestic animals. We can't Do like oLir friends who sell $15 SLtits for $5.00 for the simple reason that the suits we sell for $15 arc wholesaled for * \ almost that much , and it is therefore plain that in order to sell a $15 suit for $5 we would get such enormous profits it would be an easy matter to sell at $5. But we can't , Some people can , but we can't. can't.We We can sell you a cheviot or plain cassimere suit in either cutaway or sack , in all shades , principally gray , brown , blue and fancy colors that we sold last month for $10.50 , for the phenominal price of $8.75. We could say the former price was $20 , seas as to make you think we were just losing $8,75 on every suit we sold , but it's a $10.50 suit for $8.75.
