Tuo Board of Public Works submitted the
plans and specifications of tbo proposed now
viaduct along tbo line or South Sixteenth
street. All of tbo papers In the case wont to
the committee on viaducts and railways.
The semi-annual bill from the water works
company for hydrant rental , amounting to
tbo sum of { 38OG.VI1 , was presented in the
form of an ordinance. The ordinance brought
out a largo amount of discussion when it
came up on its tlrst rending.
President Davis urtroa that the ordlnanco
Bbould bo referred with instructions to re
port ut the meeting tonight. Mr. Elscssor
urged that such action would bo exercising
undue haste.- The bill was not duo until
"July 1 , nud there- was no law for paying It

The ordlnanco to pay for lands for parlc

amounts which it is proposed to pav are as

participate in the festivities. The invitation
wus accepted. By resolution tbo council
voted the sum of $1,000 to aid In the Fourth
of July colcbration. Mr. Mil tire hoped that
every dollar would bo expended for tbo
bonollt of tbo people.
Mr. Lowry replied that tbo commltteo
would account for every collar of tbo monoy.
Mr. Hruner voted "no , " but as ho bad
igncd a paper asking the council to appro
priate tbo money , ho changed his vole. That

foes to the mayor for his approval.
By a rosolutiou introduced by Mr. Prince
6n arc light was ordered located at. tbo In
tersection of Sherman avenue and Corby
street.

Gcorgo A. Honglaud informed the council
that omo time ago ho bid on furnishing
lumber for the citv. His bid was tbo lowest ,
but notwithstanding that fact , the contract
wus lot to nnothor partHo wanted to
know why things wore thus. Tbo committee -
too on streets and alleys will look Into the
matter.
Several parties protested against ball
playing on the vacant lots at Sherman ave
nue and Locust street. The committee on
police will look after parties who congregate
Ihcro to plnv ball.
Thomas Murray entered a protest against
the city laying a vcrmauont walk along the
front of his ilarney street property.
F. E. Morsmun wrote tint ho would fur
nish onamnl street signs att'J cents each.
Ho sold that J. 1' , Cooki1 & Co. had made a
deal with him to turnlsh the signs and then
tlicr had trlod to got lower bids from other
parties. The contract with J. P. Cooke &
Co. was presented uud approved and they
\\111 put up the signs at 1)5 ) cents oaoh.
A largo number of tbo liverymen peti
tioned the council to repeal the vuhlclo or
dinance , so far as it applied to teams kept
for biro , carriages tented to families and sail-
dlo horses.
Mr. Lowry thought tbo license Inspector
was pushing tbo uood will of the people to
the wall. A resolution was adopted , sus
pending the operation of the vehicle ordin
ance until such time as the cniuinlttoo of the
whole could report-back a now oruluauco.

A. F. M. nilllogslca , who was tha vice
president and general manager of tbo com
pany , ipent a greater portion of the summer
of 18'Jt ' In Omaha lobbying this contract
through tbo council. When ho first reached
this city ho was strong , vigorous and a pic
ture of health. For days , weeks and almost
months ho labored with certain members of
tbo old council. Ho dlnod and wined thorn
nnd then defended tbo investigation.
When it wa nil over , ho re
turned to hl3 homo , where , n tow
wooka later , ho yielded up the ghost nnd
died.

Not lonir ago the administrator , with n
view to settling up the estate , scheduled the
debts , liabilities nnd assets. Among the
latter was n claim against the Kotchnin

As Colonel Dtlllngsleu had passed to the
great and unknown beyond , the expenditures
could not bo explained. The claim was con
tested , but subsequently It was allowed and

who lm boon in the business lu this city for
more than twenty-five yearn , made a critical
examination of the furnlturo now in the
three olllccs , and unhesitatingly nnd unso
licited stated that the city had been mulcted
to the tune of several thousand aollura.

stands , little low , plain affairs. They go at

store In town.

South Shore" on the lake front just he-

will contain 1,000 rooms and accomoduto
2.600 guests at ono time. Rooms
may bo reserved by prepayment of

$1.25 a day for ton days. Board will ho
on the European plan and as low ns con
sistent with first-class service. The
hotel will bo built and managed by
Christian man for Christian people and
