Sec retary Hodgln und other oillcora ot the asso ciation , together with a committee of Omaha Jobbers , escorted thorn through nnd helped 1 to point out tbo most Interesting features ot the exposition. A rnportor of Tin : BKR started in to inter view members of the party ns to their opin ion of the exposition , but gave it ut > for the X'eason that thcro was no difference of opinion ninong them. Such ox- pmslons as "Better than I oxnootod , " "Boatn anything I over saw , " "Nebraska ought to bo proud of this. " "No one can have an Idcu of Nebraska Industries until they eo this , " wcro hoard on every hand. A goon many merchants oi.enly declared that Nebraska manufacturers should have all tbclr business. Some of thorn wont still further nnd placed orders for goods on the ipot. \V1mt They hny. C. W. Bryan of Lincoln'was hoard to re mark that the manufacturer.- ) " exposition was far superior to anything that bo had nn- ticlnatod. Uo had also noticed that everyone ono else Roomed to bo highly pleased with thouxulbit and that the sentiment In fuvor of patronizing homo Industries was gaining ground rapidly. W. II. II. Mr. ICcea , the Beatrice manufacturer , said Df tlio exposition : I never was so much sur prised in my life think of Nebraska n desert thirty-live years ago and now able to make such an exhibit of manufactured goods us this. It Is a thing for every citizen to bo proud of. * Tlio Union Ufo Kxlilblt. Olio of the most nttrnctivo features of- the Nebraska Manufacturers exhibit at the Coliseum Is an Illustration of the benefits of life insurance by the Union Llfo of Omaha. It Is unique in ovary particular , illustrating BS it doc.s , by its largo collection of little people , many scones that nro iruo to life In human experience. It Is tbo story of two lives. Thoujh starting together and remain ing in close business relations for years , they .widely diverge in thn matter of" providing for tbo future comfort nnd protection of themselves nnd families in tbo event of busi ness failure , which Is uvory common experi ence of business men. Gordon , who has every appearance of bcliig n man of good business qualifications , thinks that whllo everything is prosperous tbcro Is no necessity for any sclf-Uonlal , that bo may provide for n contingency which teems to him to ba qulto Impossible , so ho locks to enjoy life while it Ic going. On the other hand , Jennings , his business partner , carefully considers the possibilities of the future , and kuowa that if the worst does.not como ho will nt least bo laying nsldo a sura cash support for old ago that cannot bo taken from him by business failure or any other calamity , nr.d bo adopts the best nnd only method for doing this , by purchasing a stilt- pblo amount of endowment life insurance. Fourteen scenes nro introduced , bringing to View the most striking events in the lives of these parties to illustrate the oomts brought cut. cut.Tho consistency of tbo whole display is lurnrislng. The features and general ap pearance ot tbo ilgures introduced uro so well marked nnd preserved through nil the icenos that ono can readily distinguish thorn Apart. Mr. E. B. Hall , the city manager ; of the Union Llfo Insurance company , bus devised find executed this very novel nnd interesting exhibition , and U deserving of much praUu for hU success. Wo are glad to note that our "Homo" com pany , which Is deserving of the patronaga of nil our peoplo' who carry life insurance , is ruphllv becoming a loading western mstitu- -tlon , already outstripping a number of life Inuuruuco companies that are much older than It Is. It reports double tbo now busi ness thus far in IbUJ ever tlio sauio period of Iho previous year. Thn vituons of Omaha nnd this portion of Iho northwest should tuke a personal Interest in the Union Llfo , nnd It will In turn do much for thorn. Several million dollars nro nniiuullv sent east for no bolter lifo insur- kuca than is furnished bv our homo com pany. The company is com posed of seventy of our prominent business men , who have deposited with thu mute ever 1100,000 for the protection of its policy- holders. Union Kim p. At the sec ond's day's session of the International Typographical union the uommltloo on laws reported unfavorably the proposed amend ment to the constitution relating to strikes ns follows : "Immediately call upon the organizer ot the district , who shall repair to the city In volved , nnd failing to effect a settlement of the issue , ho shall call meetings of all ttio unions represented in the allied printing trades In said city , and should n majority of said allied trades decide by n throe-fourths vote to strike , such action shall bo deemed binding upon them all , nnd a strike may bo authorized without appealing to the execu tive council of International Typographical unions ; provided that this shall only apply to cities whore allied printing trades coun cils exists. " Tbo committee's unfavorable report was rejected. _ Pending further action , the committee on credentials reported lu favor of John Mc Millan of Proismon's union No. 3 , Chicago , over Bernard Nolan , and the report was adopted. A resolution submitted by the special corn- nil tteo on Iho Chllds-Droxel homo for union printers nt Colorado Springs was taken up. Mr. Suydcf , thu chairman , &ald ho had asked nearly every member of Iho board of directors for Iho bids for Iho erecllon of Iho homo and for all the correspondence relating to them. All whom lie saw denied having tbo papers in their possession. "Tbo allegation has been made that the contracts wore nwardod , " said Mr. Snyder , "at a price several thousand dollars higher than the lowest bid. Wo were appointed to look Into tbo case and wo can't do BO unless wo have the documents bearing upon it. The resolution instructs the board to furnish us with these documents 1 hope it wil pass. " Mr. Snydor's hope was fulfilled nnd It was determined tnat when the special coramit- too's report was submitted it should bo con sidered in executive session. Among other business was an invitation to tbo convention from Colonel Elliott F. Sbepard of the Now York Mail and Express to attend the opening of his new publication building. Instead of accepting , the dele gates decided that a committee of live should wait on him and ask him to employ only union pressmen and storcntypors. Having forced Chairman Smith to resign , the members of the Transtnlssouri association are now unable to unite on a man to take his placo. At least that Is the situation up to dato. A meeting of thu association was hold hero yesterday for the express purpose of electing a suc cessor to Mr. Smith , but it was a dismal fail ure. Some ot the members did not even toke the trouble to attend tbo mooting or to send representatives , and as a unanimous vote is required to elect a chairman , it was , ot course , ImpouslbU to take any decisive ac tion in that direction. After some discussion of thn subject , It was agreed to lot matters stand as at present with Secretary Mcr'ad- don as custodian of the records until Sep tember 15 , unless in the meantime nnolhor mooting shall have boon called and n chair man elected. Some difference of opinion exists as to whether J. H. Fallhurn would accept the place if olectod. A few weeks ago 11 looked as if Mr. Failhorn would surely lose the chairmanship of the Southwestern Hallway and Steamship association because the now plan of organization then under considera tion dispensed with tbo services of a chairman. The now plan , bowovor , was re jected by the association and ns Mr. Kalthorn has made an excellent chairman it is probable - blo no will bo prevailed upon to retain tbo position , oven if In doing so ho should bo compelled to withdraw from the board of commissioners of tbo Western Trafllo asso ciation. It Is staled lhat some of Ibo mem bers of tbo Trnnsmissouri association arc purposely delaying action until it can ba as certained whether Mr. Faithorn would ac cept or not if elected , nnd nlso until tbo Western Passenger association has inado ils selection of a chairman.
