New konK , Juno 3. R O. Uurt & Co.'s weekly review of trade says ! Thotonoof cornuiorctal reports from various pirts of the country Indicates that business has to some extent Improved. Collection throughout the country nro batter , and excepting the bursting of a speculative comer at Chicago there has uoon no especial excitement of any Kind lit business. The fictitious prices established for corn at Chicago lasted Just long enough to bring into that nmrKot enough , of the actual crulu to bury the speculators and the corner bruko with great toasc.i , not murnly to the operators butnho to the brokers. Wheat has declined i c , the western re ceipts being unusually largo ; than the experts - ports from'lho eastern ports hnvo also boon qulto largo. Outs ere n shaUo lower , pork products un changed and oil a little lowor. The stock of cotton In the country contin ues fnr boynd the record of previous years and there is every reason to bollovo that oven a great reduction In the yield will scarcely reduce the aggregate supply for the year below the quantity usually required for consumption. In thu Mctnl Market. Both at PUtsburg- Philadelphia pig Irou is weaker , and there are doubts whether the bottom has Doon reached , though at Chicago cage tbo market Is considerably stronger and authorities hold that the stocks of trig iron In luo country uro now considerably lower than they have been. The market for bars is weak at the lowest llguros over known , and tbo now demand for structural Iron is not qulto as largo as has Deen expected. The market for copper has boon quiet and the bulls have controlled tbo prlco of tin , out loaa has boon slugelsh. Quiet prevails In the anthracite coal market , tbo companies hav ing decided upon another attvauco in prices , which the condition of tbo market does not appear to warrant. There Is little now In the wool market , erIn In the woolen manufacture , though the tone is somowhut flrraor. At Boston , business is more active. Boots and shous are decidedly stronger and leather Is very ilrm. At Philadelphia there Is an Increase hi sales of Iron , and hardware Is quite active , while the dry goods trade has Improved with the weather and wool U strong. At , PiUsburg llnlsbcd products of Iron ar.d stool are In good demand , though prices nro the lowest over known and the glass Irado Is fairly uctlvo. General business at Chicago Is greatly in excess of last year's record , and whllo re ceipts of other breadstuffs are relatively small , there Is great Increase In wheat and flour , cured meats , dressed beef , lard and cattlo. Cold rains still depress trade at Mil waukee. Crop Indications at St. Paul are more favorable. lluslucftg Active nt Omnhn , At Omaha business Is very actlvo and re ceipts of grain and cattle are Increased. At St. Louis tbo great flood engrosses at tention and Interferes with trade. At Kansas City business seems healthy. Business Is very good at Denver. Business still retarded by bad weather at Little Uoclc and Momohls. The treasury has bcoa reducing its bal ances during the past month , putting out more money thau it has taken in , and. In some quarters , attention Is called to the fact that Its cash balances are lower than at any other time since the resumption , of specie payments. But tuo supply of money abroad is so abundant and the demand in foreign countries so moderate that It seems some what Improbable that the drain from this country will bo lurco nt any ttroo this season. The business failures occurring through out the country during the last seven davs number 207 , as compared with totals of 108 last week. For the corresponding week of last year the figures were 224. Dut tor the con- .inuauco of profotsloaal manipulation and of arbitrage doaliucs between Now York and London , as well as with minor American inurkota , Iho stagnation can bo described as complete. Tbo only Interest is derived from the steady efforts of boar operators to depress the prices of particular stocks. The tremendous speed ot the nuw railroad is not the only curious feature. The shape and nature of its cars , the track , the roadbed - bed , the mode of propelling , are equally cur ious to those who hnvo boon accustomed to steam railroads , nnd not the least curious thing about the whole scheme Is the calcula tion which Dr. Adams innao to the effect that one-tonth of nil the visitors to the World's fair nro expected to pay $3 aploco tor around trip on the road. "The plan of the road was suggested to mo whllo lu Europe last year , " the doctor said , "and my original plan was to run It from Now York to Boston.
