It showed wonderful progress In every line of tha work. Tbero are nioro than S.UOO chapters now in existence , a growth of over 8,000 In ono year. Six com mittees wore appointed to loolc alter the dif ferent departments of tbo league work , as follows : Committees on literature , ilnance , resolutions , local constitutions , ecumenical relations and credentials. These committees will report thu icsults of their deliberations tli.s morning. Almost the on'.ire day was occupied In tbo discussion of a memorial whicb bad been pre pared uy a committed appointed for the pur pose , and was intended to bo presented to the Intel nutlonal conference at Its meeting next week In Oniabu. Thu Epworlh league has never been recognized by the Mothodlst , church as a part of tbo church , and as the memorial was a formal means of calling the attention of tbo conference to the exibtenco of sucn a body , and of stating the purposes of the organization and tbo powers it was expected to exercise , the wording of the memorial provoked a lone and animated discussion. Some of tno delegates tnought the league ought to retain most of the rights it now has so far as self government Is concerned , and wcro opposed to tno relegating of any considerable amount of power to tbo bishops or tbo conference. They wanted to Keep it a strictly democratic organization , while others , on the other band , thought It would bo a waste of Itimo for the league to present itself to tbo conference for recognition as a part of the body politic and at the some tlmu keep in us own hands the entire right of government. Between these two extremes there was n variety of opinions which was limited only by the . number of delegates present. Upon this harp ol forty-threo strlnir * the board played all day lone , ana when the hour of adjournment came in tbo uvenlncr , the tune was not yet played. During tbo dis cussion the speakers waxed very warm on a number of occasions , although the best of feolini ; was manifested throuch- out. Cnairuian Fitzgerald showed remark able skill as u parliamentarian , although his duties were frequently any thing but easy , and bo won a great many compliments fromthoso present on account ol the adroit way in which bo uoured oil on the waters which seemed likely to bccorao troubled. At the hour of adjournment the memorial was still tbo topic of discus sion , and it was decided to postpone the re mainder of tbo discussion until this morntnp at U o'elocir , when tbo business uf tbo con vention will bo resumed. It was decided to bold a grand Interna tional convention of Kpwortb leagues n yer.r from next July , in Cleveland , O. . to include the south and Canada , neither of which are represented to any great extent titbo con vention now being held. Quo Interesting fact la connection with tno proposed meeting U that it will bo bold in the 13pworth Memorial church , a magnificent building erected on tbo slto of an old church In which the first Epwnrth league was organized twonty-threo years aeo. A committee on fraternal rela tions was appointed for the purpose of prompting friendly feelings between the league any any other young people's so- clotlos that may moot in conventions In the future. The business ot the convention will bo resumed this morning and will last today and probably through tomorrow. TemleicU u Itecvjitlon.
