Nf.W Vonk. Nov. 4. The stock market on the
whole today was null and Irregular , but
strength predominated nnd the early dealings
and weakness In the final trading with a
period of almost utter stagnation between.
There was good buying from London this
morning , but the btipport from domestic oper-
MOIS was slight. Lute In thu day there was
largo withdrawals of money by lloston
Institutions and thu rate of money
on call was run up to 15 per cent
while at the same time a heavy selling move
ment In Texas I'aclflo seem i ties , most ot
which wns for the account ot u failed lloston
llrm which held largo amounts of both the
stocks and bonds. The money rates caused
the selling of considerable short stock In the
goncnil list and prices yielded materially all
along the line thouirh the ellect wax gener
ally to wipe out the early advances jonly.
' 1 ho activity of tlio day was confined almost
entirely to Bt. I'.iul , Atchlson and Chicago
lias Thestrength ; in the bt. 1'iiul stocks wns
most pronounced in the forenoon after the
Issue of the Btatment of the October earnings ,
which for the fouith week wore the liugest of
any week In the history ot the company. The
grangers were all benefit ted by this anil oven
the Itock Island , which showed u loss
for the same week , advanced. The
opening piltos were small fractions better
than Monday's Una B and largo fractions wore
adiled to these gains , among the active shares
during the forenoon. Tlio movement attained
no great proportions among the rest of the
list and died nway completely before noon.
1'rlcos then settled nway on a very limited
business until the last hour , wljen thu bidding
up of money nnd the weakness In TOXIIR I'ncltlu
weakened the rest of the mnikot , and In most
blocks the early gains weru nuutrali/ed.
The movement was yeiy Irregular , however ,
and thu dual chniiges are equally so but tlio
only netivo stock thatsympathUcd to any ex
tent In the decline was Hock Island which
shows a loss fin the day of l'a poi cent , whllo
Texas I'aelllc Is down IJ4 not cent , and Chicago
cage Gas is up 1 per cent. The close was dull
and he ixy at the concessions.
Uoveinment bonds have been dull nnd
steady , fatato bonds have betn entirely neg
