NRVT YOIIK , Sept , 8. The events which have
happened slncu thu oloso of the business on
Saturday , up to the opening of the exchange
this morning , were In no particular manner of
special Inlluuneo upon prices , but the outlook
remained the sumo ami the course of the Lon

the bullish fouling upon American securities
remained unimpaired throughout. The trad-

are still working fora reaction , us the grnater

caught short , have never been able to square
their accounts as yut.
The Influence ) of Union Pacific was not ap
parent In the market this morning , but the
Vlllards , Atchlson and the Vaiulurbilts wore
the heading shares. The Nickel Plato stocks ,
Canada Southern and a few other specialties
made the most pronounced gains , but the ma
jority of the aetlvo stootfs were rather slug
gish under the pressure of the bear element
aided by some soiling of the London favorites
for foreign account , but a more decided strong
tone was shown later In the day when the
pressure tti soil was abated somewhat. Thu
opening of the market was made at Irregular
but generally higher llirures than tlio o of
Saturday's close , but the early trading de
veloped great fovurlshness under the pressure
of the Interest soiling curtain stocks. The
grangers and Goulds mndo no material
progress , but the low priced Viiudor-
tiilts soon became thn strong features
of the trading whllo In a few shares
like Missouri I'aelllc , which haa opened up
matorlallv , positive weakness was seen.
Union I'aclllo opened down 1'i per cent , at
4lli , and recovered a portion of the loss dur
ing the day. as did all the weak
stocks. The Chesapeake & Ohio shares
were subjected to considerable rcallzln - . and
consequently they all retired , and the first
preferred lost over 1 per cent , bolng tiio only
material loss of the day In the movomunts of
the different stocks. 1'rlces were kept within
narrow limits on the whole , whllo an active
tone prevailed In general until the
lust half hour , when there was a
revival of the strength under some now
uuylng and the market olnsod aetlvo aud
