THE OMAHA DAILY BEE , SUNDAY LmNE 28 , 1S91-SIXTEEN PAGES. 11 LAST WEEK'S ' LOCAL TRADE , No Revolution , But a Little Moro Rain Marked the Seven Days. NO DANGER OF A CROP FAILURE , her } hotly Snllslled with the Outlook Ooneral Trade Improving Home Chut Concerning I'rotluoo null I'rult The past week has witnessed no marked revolutions In the world of trade. Hankers , Jobbers , commission men and farmers have pursued the oven tenor of their ways , with ono eye , however , closely fixed on old Jupiter Pluvlun , and the ancient weather god has been deporting him self In a manner thai well merited their at tention. U rained by day nnd by night , nnd thdi on some da } ? , Just for variety , It Jumped In nnd rained even harder than It had boforo. A week ngo some folks thought that they had nbout all the vvi-t weather thuj could stand nnd expressed fears that nny additional rain fall would mean death to the crops. Notwithstanding this they are now just as chipper as over and they are salistlod Unit the crops nro still "in ll. " No chungo isnpparenlln Iho money market Iho bunker * , who have sought earnestly for information us to the Hltuuiion out through the stulo , oxpiess confidence in a ircmtnnous crop * Drowned oui crops will bo found only In certain localities , ns has heretofore been the cnso with Iho drouth , " remarked Manager Hughes of the clearing house last evening. "I have talked with a unmoor of pconle , nnd with ono man puticulnrly , today , who assure nio that VVP have not nad n drop too much rain , but simply enough to nssuio u heavy crop " 'If it would dry tip so that the farmers could cut n llttlo hay and gel II lo lovvn It would have n tendency to case things up a llttlo , " sild a Harnov street wholesaler. "Country trfcrchunta find ll dlfllcull lo mnko collections , and are Itieroforo compelled to Itcop us waiting " C'ountrj produce has kepi ino market well supplied. No cabbage is being shipped in at present , as the local gardeners are fnllv sup- pi } Ing llio demand Prices range from CO lo W ) ccnls per doren. Potatoes have been com ing fast and furiously from California. They have all been of llio early vaiioly , as old po tatoes will not sell at any price. The price of new potatoes has declined from SI.50 10 81.SO , the latter being Iho llguro for large oulsldo shipments. Homegrown ones aru coming In , but do nol llguro largely In Iho market. The California run of the early va rieties is about ov or. and Iho supply will now come from Kansas , Missouri and Texas. It Is believed that prices will spring back n llt tlo as Ihe supplv from the coast lets up. The Jobbers report an excellent business , but without exception complain ot poor col lections , and considerable paper is overdue. In nearly nil branches trade Is heavier than nt this lime a jear ago , and Iho boot and shoo men nre selling inoro goods limn at that time. They attribute the dullness of collections very hugely , nllLough not wholly lo tlio vvot weather. There has been nn abundance of fruit in the mniket , though the rain has pla.vrd havoo ns well ns vvenU'-ned the nerve of Ihcictail morchanls who have guarded zealously against overstocks. The supply of blnck- x berries nnd rnspbcriics has been unstinted. There weio some California * ! but It was mostly nalivo fruit. Ulackberiles are $2.50 per 124 quart case , and fancy iiispboirles go at the same llgute. Peaches , plums nnd apricots are coming , but the heavy rush has not jet commenced. Peaches command from J.OO ( .2 21 , and the receipts are not heavy. Thoic are lots of southern peaches In the county that must come , and the * liguro will not bo high Smglo boxes will bring 75 cents. Pears will bo along before the Aouith. Slrawbcrrles nio out of season. A few were received early In the wcok , but they wore in poor shape , and found no market. Good ones would command a pretty llguro. The big run of the enrlv varieties of cherries is over , und the fruit is In great demand. Tlio prloo line bcou Dunn Iu $ uuuuusnei , DUt good ones nre now worth fj 50. Hot weather helped the lemon Irado , which had hllhcrlo been unfavorable. Do.dors had docked up heavily , anticipating the usual bilsk trade of Mny and Juno , but the weather was too cool , and many had lo suffer Iho loss of repacking , which Is no small item. A few straggling shipments of plums \vsnt at $1.50 lo JJ.OO. Southern apples are be ginning to come , nnd one-third bushel baskets are sold nt G0 ( 7lc. ) It will bea great fruit year nnd the yield will bo enormous , despite r heavy losses from stormy wealhor. A disastrous storm ciuly in the week de stroyed the fruit on fi.H)0 ( ) peach nnd 1,000 npplo trees nt Villa Hldgo , near Cairo , in the gicnt fruit section of southern Illinois. Other sections also suffered , still an abundant market nnd low prices will prevail. Omaha Is using far more fruit than over before fore , but the local market for the choicer guides will ease up pciceptibly next month , when the largo percentage of upper tcndom is gone lo seaside and mountains. The umikot has been \ory well supplied In the egg , bultor niul poultry lino. I L'gs have held at about Me. Duller at lOc has been vor } largely taken by the packers. Thcte vvero not many old fowls in the mar ket , nnd poultry has ranged from f.1.60 to p-l 00 , while n few loosters went at f.125.
