THE OMAHA DAILY BEE : SUNDAY/TUNE ( 21 , 189JL-SIXTEEN PAGES. 11' THE CONDITION OF TRADE , Everything Soema to Point to tbo Coming ol Great Prosperity , BOUNTIFUL CROPS ARE NOW CERTAIN , Jlalim oftlio T/.isi AVcnlc Have Itocn n Trlllo OntiKcrotiB , Hut Hot \Vcathcr Will Sjou Settle ) All. vThero may bo said to have been absolutely no change In the condition of the money mar ket the past weok. There has boon no un- fnvorablu reaction as n result of the heavy gold shipments , A good demand for money Is noticeable In local llnnncinl circles , but the money market Is not unduly stringent. The hanks almost invariably report the situation as "just about the same ns n week ago. " The heavy nnd continuous rains reported from all over this section have convinced the Jobbers that n tremendous crop Is assured , unless Indeed thcro may bo a superabun dance of moisture. Little uneasiness Is felt , however , on that score , and the prevailing opinion seems to bo that if the rains will let up now for n tlmo everything will bo well. The traveling salesmen for the wholesale houses say that thcra ni been too much rain In certain localities , and that corn U there fore backward. although to no great extent " is It drowned out. It has rooted deeply , and with a few hot days will shoot upward surprisingly. Small grain & . needs no more rain ; In.fact , dry weather Is now essential as harvest Is about to begin. The wholesale trade is reported ns very satisfactory , and in some lines , notably boots nnd shoes , Is better than n year ago at this time. Thcro Is , perhaps , no moro money In It now than then , as prices are much closer , nnd a heavier volume 'of business Is neces sary to give the same results. In tills line of trndo pri''es are llxed at the beginning of the season nnd nro not changed until the end , hence the Jobbers are comp - p < Hod to make the best of it , although realiz ing that with It they must look closely after nbnky customers. Fortunately there is a small percentage of this class of custom loft , ns the two poor seasons experienced have virtually driven them to the wall , and there Is n larger percentage of cash business than over before , while the remain der Is nearly all gilt edge credit. It has been necessary for Jobbers to grant extensions In many instances , but the outlook Is such LA to Inspire n fcclini ; of easiness and safety. Another bad year would , of course , have complicated matters to an alarming extent. Collections are a little dull , but the whole- > anlers are not raising any complaints on that - , Bcoro. / Country produce has found the market well supplied , although at no tlmo over loaded. The condition of the country roads has not prevented the deliv ery of enough to supply all demands. Kggs have hold nt 15 cents , and butter at 10 cents , but a tumble will bo taken from these prices within the next few days. New potatoes have held up surprisingly , and nro now quoted nt Sl.fiU. but the commission men expect to see the price cut exactly In two before the last of tin week. There Is a heavy early crop in sight , and It is headed inarketward. Fruit Is very plentiful and in good variety , and finds n ready market. " There Is a continued steadiness in the poultry - - try market , and prices remain unchanged. A 1 interest centers in the weather , nnd in the midst of the wet downpouring ntid the interchange of climatic procnostlcntloiis the weeds have continued to grow. They have obtained a good startin the corn fields , but have not as yet secured n sulll- cient start to interfere with the prospects of n tremendous crop. In speaking of the general extent to which the wet weather has prevailed , Mr Glass , who covers Utah and the surrounding terri tory for C. A. Coo & Co. , said : "Out there , where you might .say it never r.xins under ordinary circumstances , It has of late been ruining heavily , and it is very wet. Mining is the principal Industry out there , nnd farming is a secondary consideration , so the rain don't cute Important n figure ns It does in Nebraska. I came In Friday night tor the first tlmo this year , and crops in this state seem to promise wonderfully well. "Corn Is backward , but there nro some splendid fields of It between Omaha nnd the Colorado lino. " "Our men say that the farmers ns n whole feel very well , " said n hardware Jobber. I "Some who complained last year because It > . was too dry nro kicking now because it.Is too * * V wet , bat they wouldn't bo satisfied if they s _ could order the I weather day by day. V. "Our customers nro buying conservatively , But even In the sections where they had nothing last year thcro Is already a feeling of contldonco and the farmers are darting out in ns good shape us though nothing unfav orable had happened. The stock market to day was Insignificant In every respect and ro- llectod only the waiting attitude of operators. the trading bolng extremely small and the fluctuations strictly In accordance. The for eigners were Inclined to buy , but the trading element was bearish and there was no disposi tion to trade by domestic operators. The feel ing abroad was Indicated by higher ( Inures In London this morning and this produced gen erally higher prk cs at the opening here which , however , were BOOH neutralized by the short sales by the trading clement.
