Omaha , Neb. 1309. that Tankard had suffered a fracture of the skull besides the cuts HIM' bruises about the head , face and shoulder Tli3 ma , 's ban s were badly skinned and the right wrist sprained. At 10 o'clock last night the doctor stated that his patient wrs resting easier , but that the chances for recovery were very slim. slim.Tho The accident demonstrated the Immediate need of an ambulance , as the patrol wagon docs not even carry bandages to temporarily bind up wounds. The injured man is single and boards at the corner of Sevontocntti and Nicholas. It could not be learned last night whether ho bad any relatives in the city or not. Dr. LJirney cures catarrh. Boo There is something very refreshing about "Tho Mttlo Tycoon , " something that always seems now and original , that no matter bow- many tunes you may have heard the opera you still listen to It and enjoy It almost as much us you did on its tlrst production. It seems to grow In beauty with the years , and although it began its fourth engagement in Omaha last evening at the Boyd , the audience seemingly enjoyed Its tuneful melo dies qulto us mucti'as when the songs were very new. Now and then something in the second act of "Tho Tycoon1' will suggest "Tho Mikado , " yet the two operas have litilo in common , ex cept in their elaborate costuming , and in this "Ttie Tycoon" far surpasses Gilbert & Sulli van's composition. Thn music of the two opcr.xs is vcrv differ ent , the motif as widely separated as the poles. Gilbert .t Sullivan had a bubble to prick when "Tho Mikado" was given its premiere , a fad to satirize , but on the other hand Mr. Spenser , the author of "Tho Tycoon , " conceived the Japanese situation as u means to unite two lovers whoso love making is frowned upon by General Knickerbocker , the father of Violet. In "Tho Tycoon" wo are not required to enter the dominions of that potentate , but on the contrary have the scene onai-tod at Newport , the summer homo of the Knicker becker , ho of the "redwhite and bluojulood. " A largo audienc.0 gave enthusiasm to Iho players last eveninp and per consequence the opura made , what It deserved , n signal suc cess. As a whole the comuany is very much stronger than wo have yet seen la the opera , and the ensemble perfect. Miss Tollula Kvans , who sings the part of Violet , has a beautiful soprano , which shows the most careful cultivation , and she uses It with the skill of the ar'isto. There is no claptrap in her method , no striving after effect to the detriment of thojnelody , but throughout she shows u thorough apprecia tion of the character that Is extremely pleasing. Her middle voice Is particularly sweet and limpid , just suited for the rendi tion of "Lovo Comes Like a Summer Sigh , " which seems to have been born again stnco her assumption of Violet. An excellent foil to the modest and retiring Violet Is tbo Dolly Dimple of Miss .lennlo Goldthowaito , who brings to the part a vi vacity and a freshness that Is delicious. Wo have never scon the part so excellent ly played. In addition to being ono of the beauties of the comic opera stage Miss Goldthowaito is an Ideal sotibrotte , full of chic , ana an actress from the tips of her toes to the ends of her curly dark hair. She 'is an acquisition , and the wonder of it is that the west has not seen her before. Miss Alice Hosmor makes n pleasing Miss Hurricane. A capable singer who conscien tiously sacrilices herself for the part is a rarity in those lin do seiclo days , yet Miss Hosmcr docs that and seems to enjoy it too. Will Mandovillo as Knickerbocker is very acceptable , yet ono cannot help but recall K. 10. Graham in the part , and this is by no means n reflection on the gentleman who now plays the rolo. Mr. Mandovillo makes the ctiaractcr u bit moro dlgnilled than did " his predecessor and sings "it well , but his forte Is not the topical song , espc cially the song of the "I Bcllovo U" order. The humor is not brought out there seems to bo some thing lacking. Alvin Barry Is played by Gcorgo Lydlng quite pleasingly. He has a pretty tenor voice of limited compass , exquisitely tuned for ballad singing , yet ho has magnetism and that goes a long way. Arthur Pacio is very commendable as Kufus , whila everything has been said of Joseph Mealey's Teddy that could bo said. When a man plays the same character for six years it may bo a pleasure to him to sco that his numo Is omitted from the review of the performance. The stage settings were Inindsomo and the performance was one continued success from "post to llnlsb. " Sumo pcrlormanco tonight.
