A meeting took place , as had been nn- hounccd , Saturday nftornoon , between tbo management of tbo Chautaqua Assembly as sociation and President Stewart of the Omaha and Council Bluffs Brldeo company. Manager Huzolton presented to President Stewart what ho believed to bo the ultima tum in the way of proposlt/ons , but was not able to glvo that gentleman what ho wanted , and the consequence was that ho received no ohcourucemeut that the line would bo built. In conversation about the matter Mr. Stewart said that the company wanted the association to gurnntco u ! l per cent , grade between tbo city and the as sembly grounds. Tlio association would only guarantee a fi per cent , grado. He was con vinced that the building of a line to tlio grounds would mean a loss to the company of several thousand dollars lars every year , and ho saw no reason why they should build a motor line that would increase the value of the property along the road , bf.-louplug to a syndicate , unless they could share the profits. As there could apparently bo no agreement reached as to the grade ho did not see that there was any use of prolonijlng the negotiations. Manager Huzollon states that ho has about glvn. . up all hope of getting the motor line out to the grounds this year. Ho thinks thn only thing that Is left Is to got the best terms nosslblo from tbo Rock Island nnd Milwaukee railroads. There is no American tour which combines a greater variety of scenery nn.d a wider In- tcostotho traveler than ono from Omaha to SnuFrunclsco and Lo > Angeles , Culn. The trvclc-r passes through the states of Ne braska Colorado , \Vyomiug. Nevada and California nnd the territory of Utah. This Is the great business bolt of the west nnd at every step of the journey something or inter est presents Itself , whether the tourist bo student , business man or tnorcly pleasure seeker. Nebraska nnd Its prairies ; Colorado and its mountains ; Utah und its wonderful Salt lake ; Nevada nud its arid plains nnd Cali fornia with Its Innumerable attractions , nro all compassed In this trip. Omnhn , the most prosperous city In thu union today ; Denver , the queen city of the Rockies ; Salt Lake , tbo Xlon of Mormondom ; Sai Francisco , the golden gate , nnd Los Angeles , the City of Our Mother of the Aiigels , form a string of jewels of rarest water. These urn all prosperous cities : they are all beautiful cities ; they are all wonderful cities. Each is romnrKnblo for some particu lar reason. No two of them uro alike in attractions and no traveler can afford missing to see each and all. In the months of Juno , July , August and September the prairies of Nebraska , tlio Rocky mountains , the valleys of Utah and tbo great Sierra range are seen to the best possible advantage. It Is the fruit season of California , the sight seeing period of all the mountain countries nnd the pleasurable part of the venr for travel. A week or u month may bo spent at Denver visiting the pictur esque mountain rcsortsndjaccnt and another week can likewise bo enjoyed at Salt Luke In bunting , llshlng , sight seeing und bathing in the great inland sen. As much time as the passenger likes may bo cnjoyably spent in San Francisco and other points in California , not executing the lovely orange'groves and fruit orchards of southern California. Niagara fulls , the world's gniatost catar act , ni'cds no glowing description. It cannot bo described. Pouring over a precipice 1CU feet high , the Immense volume of water of Niagara river , the outlet of the great lakes finds its way toward the ocean. On cither snlo of the river are splendid views of this tremendous waterfall , above It and below It UI1U all UUUUt Ib ULU UtUUL ai'UUI.-a wulUUllttvu attracted travelers from nil parts of the "world. Gout island , the burning spring , the -whirlpool rapids , the suspension bridge , are incidents merely to a visit to Niagara falls. The field on which the battles of Luudy's Lane was fought is within a few minutes drive on tbo Canadian side. The facilities for visiting all points of interest on either side of the river are superior. The regula tions controlling access to and from the sev eral points now prevent the exorbitant charees which were formerly almost as fam ous as tbo cataract. A day or u few days at Niagara falls is ono great event in an twor- iigo lifetime , and no American should over think of visiting tourist resorts abroad until ho has scon Niagara falls. Ho can have no appreciation of power ; of grandeur , of awe- inspiring beauty , who has missed a visit to this world renowned spot. Dr. Birnov cures catarrh. Boo bld'g. J'crl'ect Gentleman. I saw on the street an old Nevada friend who used to bo in business as a ttugo rohbor , says Arthur MeEwon in his San Francisco letter. Being of a genial disposition and having u rich sense of humor ho possessed many friends , none of whom suspected the connection between ills frequent ab sences from the city and the robberies whicti made travel unnlensant. There was much surprise , therefore , when Dave was arrested on a chargoof having stopped the stiigo- just beyond Dayton ono night and got away with Wells Far- go's treasury box. What led to Ills ar rest was the circumstance that immedi ately after breaking open the box and loading the sacks of coin upon his horse , ho had gene up to the stage , handed n twenty to ono of the passengers and hos pitably said in his well known voice through his mask to ono of them , ' Judge , you take this and treat the boys when you como to Missouri Jako's. " Uo had no dilliculty whatever in get ting bondsmen , for nobody believed him guilty at first.
