A natural ueslre on the part of the trading
bulls to take piollts and see the coloi of their
money was the main cause of the partial re
act Ion In stocks yesterday , linkers said the
gold shipments wete put forward piiimliicntly
as a sort of excuse for the pattlal decline ef

The market has shown the effect of the elimi

Corn and oats wore both dull and lower. The
longs who have made money seemed to have
sold out a creat deal of their corn and show-
no disposition as yet to buy It back. Some of
the largest operators In both corn and oats
are beginning to talk bcarUn under the Idea
that the recelnts of both will Increase as soon
as the country roads Improve. The demand
for cash stuff today has been very slack and
oven the snmll receipts did not meet randy
buyers. Provisions weto dull and lower. The
sentiment of our local operators Is becoming
undeniably bearish , while outside holders aio
not showing as much courage In retaining
their holdings as tliey did two months ago.
ICtmnctt , Hopkins & Co. to S. A. MoWhorter
There has been tmthcr and quite general
llquldiillim by weak holders , and tlio big bulls

no conspicuous etlort to sustain prices. Un
doubtedly they are quite wtlllnz to see them
go lower still. The market Is In their
hands , however , and whenever they seriously
sot about putting It up It will 1)3 likely to go
without ollort. Possibly wo may got another
day or two of weakness , but It Is probably a
purchase on weak spots from now on. Cable
