On the evening of March SO , last , William Chronlster , on old tlmvaro peddler , while sitting in the. kitchen of the house of Mrs. Austin Uccd , "who lives eight miles from Elkhorn station , was shot and died Instantly. For seine tlmo both Chronistor nnd a young man named Tony Frank had been paying some attention to the woman , and owing to this fact suspicion pointed to the young man. The next day after the murder ho was nrrestcd , waved examination and was held to the district court. At tliu spring term Frank was tried , hut the Jury failed to ngroo. Yes- tcriay | the trial of the case was commenced for n second tltno before Judge Glnrkson. After some difllculty a Jury was secured nnd at ! ! o'clock yesterday afternoon the tak ing of testimony began. IJr. MeMnnignl was the flrst witness put on by the state , nnd ho testified to the llndlng of tlio body and the holdlne of the post-mor tem. He reached the house at 3 o'clock on the afternoon of March 111 ; found the body of Chronistur lying on a cot near the window. After sawing off the cap of the skull ho re moved twelve or fifteen shot from the brain. The wound which caused death was on ttio loft side of the head , lust below the oar. IIo thought that the murderer must have placed the muzzle of his gun eloso to the window , us .tho charge of shot scattered but llttio. Mrs. Austin Kced , the woman in the case , was the next witness. Chronistcr was nt her house tlio night of the murder. Ho had boon there frequently , and at times ho and Frank had quarrelled. She thought that both , men wore somewhat smitten by her charms , but she cared for neither ; that Is , eho did not love them. [ Special Telegram to THE BIK. ] An extraordinary case under , ho poor debtor law is reported from ono of , ho eastern counties. Several years ago a man was arrested on an execution for debt and ; hrown into Jail. Being obdurate the cred- tor kept him behind the bars and paid his board at tlio rate of fcj'pcrday. Then the prisoner desired to schedule out , but bo then found that ho must , under the law which prevailed at the tlmo of his arrest , pay all tlio costs and expenses. This ho was unable to do. The consequence was that ho remained In Jail , where ho has now been several years , his board being still paid by the creditor , who has gene HO far as to set aside 52,000 in his will to board the man after bis death.
