Mayor Macron and Alderman Everett were not present when the council wns called to order but before the patience of the aldermen wns exhausted Aldeimnu Wood took the chair , nnd after the minutes were read n lopoit from the tlnniico committee was made ami President Everett appeared and took the chair. The finance committee reported in favor of allow Ing the cliilm of Mrs. Hllza Crawford for $ , ' 00 damages sustained by excavating Indian creek , the amount having been allowed by the council in 18S9 , but the warrant was never drawn. The report wns referred to the Judiciary committee. A. Wheeler petitioned to bo allowed credit for tilling tlio street in front of his property , the contractor having received estimates for the filling done by Wheeler. Itoferred to the city engineer for correction. Huports of city clerk and auditor for No vember were referred to the ilnnnco com mittee. A resolution was presented by Alderman Wood abolishing all paving districts , from Xo. 2 up to No. 7 , and providing that nil the paving done m the city hereafter bo de scribed as being done in district No. 1. The resolution wns designed to prevent the con fusion arising from the constantly Increasing multiplicity of districts. Tlio icsolution was ndoijtc'l and refencd to tlio city attoruoy , with instructions to prepare un ordinance for the same purpose. The city marshal's report of special notice served was received. It included the abate ment of several nuisances , anil Alderman Wind wanted something else done besides re ceiving the report. Ho wanted the marshal Instructed to .sco that the nuisances com plained of mo not only abated but kept abated. Tlio instructions were given. The Interstate sticct nillway and bridge company filed Its formal acceptance of the charter recently granted. Another ordinance icgulnting the back downs was Introduced. It repeals all other ordinances and tlxcs no specific places for the hnckmen and expressmen to congregate , but scatter them over the streets , nnd prohibits them stopping their hacks or wagons within 100 feet of each other while waiting for cus tomers. The ordinance passed to its second rending nnd was then referred to the commit- .co of the whole upon motion of Alderman Yard.
