The real cstato exchange mot on Thursday
and reorganized for the ensuing year. Then
on Friday nnd yesterday thcro was the same
lack of interest in the meetings that has
'
characterized'tho sessions of the board dur-

The dullness of tlio nicotines was not duo
to any lack of activity in the realty market ,
but to n difference of opinion among mem
bers that will result in the breaking up inof
the organization or In an entire cbango In tlio
scope and plan of Its work.
Some of the more aggressive members feel
thnt thcro is no use , sense or prollt in simply

the oriiploymunt of a secretary who

William Allen Was arraigned before .Judge
Holsloy on thnt i-hurgo. A jail sentence of
thirty days was mulcted , but was suspended
until the nrlsouor should again put In an up-
pcaranco in thu city , llo was then escorted
to the brldgo nad 11 ml across Into Iowa.
Allen Is a man with a history and Is a
notorious and most dant'crous crlmlnnl as
well. Ho formerly made Omaha his head
quarters and was at ono time eugiif jd in tlio
salooit tnislnoss hero. Ho was married In this
city , but his wlfo win led to believe herself n
wldowln abouttwo years , when tlio announce-
tnont ramo that Allen had died In Chicago of
cancer. It Is stated on good authority that
Allen was actually pronounced dead by n
physician , but subsequently recovered.
However , ho did not choose to contradict
the statement that had gone out concerning
his supposed death , but on the other hand
took ) ) ling thnt a full report nf Ills funeral
and Inlermont in thoeitv by the hike should
reach the ears of his wlfo In Omaha. SIuco
that time nnd until a few | dajs ago ho has
studiously absented hlinwU from Omaha ,
and his most intimate friends hero supposed
that his earthly existence mid long since
como to mi end. In the meantime ills wife
married ngatn , nnd is todny living happily in
this city as the wife of a well known railroad
man.
Allen was known to the police as an all-
around crook and desperate character.
Although one of the smoothest conlldonco
moa In ho country , ho was not averse to try-
iiift1 his baud at safe-blowing orbank robbing ,
and his sharpness nnd shrewdness made him
more successful than the average In itll
branches of crime.
Allen wns recognized ns soon ns ho .struck
the city , and ho and his pal were arrested by
Detectives Savage and Dempsey nt the cor
ner of Fourteenth and Farnnn. They prom
ised to do no criminal work in the city If the
ofllccrs would not lock them up , but they
wcro taken before Chief Seavey , to whom
Allen said thnt ho merely came hero to sco
his children and satisfy himself that they
were being properly educated. The fellows
wcro ordered to got out of the city and wcro
released , us there was no charge that could
bo made to hold against them. Since then
his pd has kept out of slcht , but Allen vis
ited the chief two or three times , pleading for
permission to stay in the city , nnd was llnnlly
turned over to Sergeant IIiuo and locked up.
In his pocket ivos found n "Hash roll , " evi
dently made up for the purpose of catching
the eye of a "sticker. " , ludgo Holsloy told
him that n man who carried a roll of that
kind was not wanted In Omaha ntnl could not
stay here.
it Is stated that Allen is n fugitive from
Justice , being wanted in Texas , but ho was
not held , ns It was not known whether or not
the authorities there would como alter him.
Allen admitted thnt ho escaped from the
Texas authorities four years nyo. Ho Jumped
from the window of a fourth-story room
whcioho was being gunnlod , caught a light
ning1 rod nnd slid to the ground , getting out
of sight nnd making good bis escape before
his guards fully recovered from their sur
prise.
Ho is a consumptive looking individual ,
and told the Judge tb.it tie had been in the
hospital 1'or the past fpur years. The local
authorities will see to it that ho docs no work
