THE OMAHA DAILY BEE : SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2 , 1890.-SIXTEEN PAGES. 15 THE CONDITION OF TRAffi , The Showing Not Generally BO Good as That of the Provlous Week. WEATHER AND ELECTIONS RESPONSIBLE , Dealers nlnlnelliKMl tn Make New ObllKiitioim Until tlin Outcome Is Hell hil : A lt ; vlo\v oT tlio As a general thing the state of trade lias not been so Rood during the past week as for the wcolt previous. Hovoral causes , perhaps , hhvo IM-PII nt work to bring nbout this result , but it will aunico to mention only the two most Important the weather and the comhiK election. The mild \vcathor has tuo natural result of holding back nil winter good * nnd 'dealers are not likely to call for fresh sup plies until thcro Is some prospect of lowering present stocks. The general Interest taken In the political U- b-uus nt stake and the disinclination f business men to make nny now obligations until the outcome Is finally settled has neon n fruitful cause of decreased sales. A great many of the local Jobbing houses have re called their traveling men in order to give them nn opportunity to vote , and accordingly order.s from thnt source hnvo been cut down. In the grocery market prices nro generally Rteiidy. At eastern points the trade has been rather unsatisfactory nnd the weather ngaln comes In for n share of the denuncia tion , and falling other explanation , operators lay the blame for dull trade In many cases unon the succession of storms of Into prevail ing In some states. It is , however , more than likely that oven bright weather would make but little difference In trade at the tno- incnt , buyers from jirettv much all sec tions simply .sending in orders enough to meet current requirements for Immediate consumption , and postponing heavier Invcst- m6nts until after the turn of the month. "Whatever the effect the tariff may have had on other commodities it. . certainly has not on- Imnccd the value of any of the staple grocer ies , many of which are on tbo downward turn. It la noticeable that with the excep tion of a few minor articles there Is practi cally nothing inclined to any buoyancy on value , nnd some goods of leading character nru really working in opposite directions , so that complaint over cost does not interfere with trado. U'lio volume of business In dry goods Is reported lighter than n week ago. The weather was somewhat un favorable for the distribution of heavy whi ter fabrics , nnd it Is probable that the 10- cirder demand from country dealers was hardly up to expectations. Hut n lull in the demand for Reasonable goods at this time of year Is of such common occurrence that there is not tbo least uneasiness on the part of holders of merchandise. On the contrary , rather more than an nverago supplementary demand for winter goods Is anticipated by Jobbers as soon as the wo.ithcr becomes cold enough to glvo an Impetus to consumption. Hardware dealers report business as run ning nlong smoothly and complaint over the condition of trade is something of n rarity. It is not a trroat big rushing trade keeping all hands on the jump , but steady polnp from day to day nnd moving a pretty liberal quan tity of stock. Prices retain very much the lonnergood general support , and a weak tone Is the exception--In laot can hardly bo found on nny real. . , * standard description of stock nt the moment. In country producn the changes have been Blight and of no great importance. In some articles there has been a dcfcrcaso In the sup- lily and a consequent stronger tendency In thu market as In the casu of poultry 'and oggs. As a general thing supply and demand have just nbout kept pace. OMAIl.l Jt.lHU.KT9. ' ' Cattle. Saturday , Nov. 1 , Estimated receipts of cattle , boo , as com pared with I.WO yesterday and 2OiU !
