Crop I'rospoiMs.
Durlni ; the corrcsiiondlns week a year npro
the tcinpenituro risliiff , corn was rapidly
iimturliitf , farmcrd were throshlnjj sprint ;
wheat ami soiling freely. There was n largo
movement ol outs with prices at points of
production In Nebr.iska at from 10 to 12 cents
u bushel.
Kxucpt In the ox trcmo northern portion of
the spring wheat belt , the fcruil bullc of the
crop is liow cither in shock or stack , The
milling quality depends largely on tlio
weather of tlio next few weens. In central
Minnesota thi-eshliig bus commenced. The
quality is not up to last .vein1 by imy means ,
It is grading Is'o. 2 and No. ! 1. Lust year
the bullc of the crop graded No. 1
northern , -weighed llfty-cight to sixty
pounds , while this year it only weishs
from lifty-two to llfty-six. A free
movement of wheat is looked for as soon as
threshing is over. Southern Minnesota re
ports that most of the wheat is in the shock ,
but that very little threshing has yet been
done. The wheat is not us plump us it was
last year and does not weigh as heavy. Farm
ers in this section geiier.illy do their full
plowing before threshing , beiiuo no large re
ceipts are looked for until October.
Threshing returns from points In Soutti
D.ikota show Unit nearly every piece threshed
has fallen from one-third to one-half below
former estimates. The largest yield so fur Is
ten bushels per ncro , but. in the majority ol
casns is from four to six bushels.
North Dakota has probably grown ns much
wheat as hist year. What damage , if nuy ,
the frort 1ms done the present week is
yet entirely to early to state. It fiu-t ,
parties on the ground uro non-committal ou
tills point.
In South Dakota there is n decrease in acre
age and amount in yield per acre. Tim crop
uill gr.ule largely No. ' . ' , while lustycar's crop
was largely Xo. 1 northern. 'Ibo yield in
Jllnnesoln. in most sections is less than last
year's. Farmers seem aiitisllcd at present
prices and an early and free movement is
lojked for. Kescrves ot old wheat have been
reduced to a minimum.

The eyes nro formed by

which ropresant the wliites of the oyo3.
Upon those , snrill , cii-eulnr pieces of : i

wooden part of the musk is Hat behind ,
but tlio head has been neatly rounded
out with dry leaves , which are held in
shape nnd place by an opcm not of
twisted corda.
Around the margin of the mask are
five pairs of holes , through which
strings fasten u great variety of articles
to the grotesque bend little packages
of beans and seeds , rolls of cloth of dif

earth carefully wrapped in line qorn

Attached to the left side of the mask
by long , stout cords * is a pouch resem

side of the head'a not is suspended in

other curious relics ,
Those articles were doubtless the prop

of the race to which ho belonged. These
mask heads wore probably objects of
much consldcrn'tion , although wo of the
