A syndicate of Omaha gentlemen has been orga- ni/eil for the purpose of either purchasing it outright or of purchasing a part interest , the remainder to bo owned by Council Bluffs capitalists. Negotiations uicnow In progress , and the matter will probably ho settled in a few days. It is proposed to inakcsuch changes as will put the pant on a paying basis. This is something thai has never yet been done , and the park has thus far proved any thing but a paying investment for the stock holders. It is stated that Mio Omaha track is not what it should be , and as the track at Union park is recogniml as one of the best in the country it is argued that there is no rea son why it should not pay. It is proposed to make it essentially a twin city park and give such attractions as will bo certain to draw a liberal patronngo from Omaha as well as from the Bluffs. The projectors of the now scheme argue that this can bo done and they nro willing to expend several thousand dollars if necessary to demonstrate that Union park , if properly managed , would bo a bonanza instead of a sinking fund for the stockholders. Tlio mouth of the snail is armed with a very formidable instrument In the shape of a remarkable saw-liko tongue , says Longman's niagit/.lne. Probably you have at bome time or another noticed how cleanly cut uro the edges of a leaf upon whlcha , , anall has been re galing himself , itj is difllcttlt to imagine how stieh a soft niid Hubby looking ani mal can have mndo such clean Incisions. Jltit with nn examination of the cutting Instriimonl eonct'nled In his mauth won der on this score vanishes. It resembles a long , narrow ribbon celled in such a manner Hint only a small portion of it is called into use at once. Thickly distrib uted over the entire surface of this rib bon are nn immense number of exces sively sharp litllo teeth , designed . in a manner which admirably adapts them to the purpose for which they are intended. The quantity of these teeth is incredible one species , for instance , has been in disputably proved to possess as many us itOHM ( ) of them. Tlio reasoii for their disposition on a celled ribbon-like surface Jies in tlto fact that by tjso they become worn away. As this happens the ribbon is uncoiled and the teeth , which before were wrapped tip in it al the back of the snail's month , came forward to take the place of lho. > which have nerved their turn. Tim uppjr part of the month consists of a horny surface , against which the sharp-toothed tongue works. A leaf which is to bo operated upon is caught between the two and subjected to a regular lilo-liko rasping on the part of the tongue. So effective an instru ment does tills lorm that the tough leaves of the lily may often bo found to be entirely rasped off by it. .MUSICAL WOljYKS. A Plainsman Tells a Funny Story of a Voiilni'CNoine Tenilei'l'oot. Still further proof of the superior char acter of the wolf is found , according to Mr. Mumford , in its' musical taste , says the New York Sun. llo says that once upon a time a tenderfoot came to his cabin in February and engaged his help in securing-a number of wolf pelts. As the easiesl way to accomplish Ibis Mr. Mumford nnnointed the man's hcols with asafiitida and sent him oil up a gorge whore wolves were kiiowii to be. Wolves will always follow such a trail. Tlio man was to jro to a tree previously pointed out and climb into the branches , and from that perch shoot as many wolves as ho liked , for il ' wns'certiiin that the wolves in smelling the drug would make haste to come to him. The pelt gatherer started off us directed , but very much sooner than ho expected ho heard the howl of the first amorous beast on his trail. lie was startled by this , and when a few minutes later another soulful howl made the air tremble ho be came alarmed. The tree seemed a ter rible way off , and for il lie lied for dear life , with the wolves in hot pursuit , Out of breath , and half wild with fear , ho reached the tree , and up he went. In his excitement he left his rillo on the ground. A few minutes Inter a half do/.en wolves were snarling and yapping beneath and biling ut the bark of the tree in the most/ei'ocious manner. Tlio tenderfoot , Ijoing safe , recovered his composure after a little , but the wolves continued tosimrland light under the tree. Then the man , to puss away tlie lime until Mumford should come to his rescue , took ajnouth organ from his pocket and began to play "Home , Sweet iloine. ' ' As the strains : Heated , out on the air the wolves stopped lighting. A look of astonishment came over each wolf's face. They swayed and .stepped from side to side and then down they squatted on their haunches , up went their noses and with ono accord they opened their mouths and howled as never before. No sooner did they gel through with the first howl than they caught their breath and started in again. Jt was at this juncture that Mumford arrived. TJio sight of a row of wolves sitting up as an audience to such a concert and encoring the fetar performer in such accents was too much for Mumford and lie rolled on the ground and laughed and shouted aloud. Thereupon the wolves clapped their tails between their Jogs and sneaked u'way through the brush , and the limit was over for that day. Quinine Intoxication. There are many cases on record where a use of quinine lias caused a disarrange ment Tf the mental powers and to such an extent that the sufferer did not know what lie or she was about , suys Dr. Lewis A. Say re. Instances are not few where patients who wore given largo dosca of the drug became delirious. These symp toms , however , pass away when the use of quinine was. discontinued , it is possi ble while under its inlltionce for ono to act as irresponsibly as when in liquor. That quinine affects the brain is evident from the fact thai an overdone will cause severe buzzing in Iho carp and oft on lem- porary deafness. Physicians can not bo too careful in prescribing quinine , for what is ono man's meal is another man's poison. I have known ono grain to have more effect on some patients than fifteen grains on others. The sumo can be said of morphine.
