The trade wad kept on the alert , however ,
by the expectation that Ilutchlnson would

between "bj e and TS WTOe. There was no
vcrj decisive , firm undertone considering
tlio offerings. Liverpool cables wore steady.
jSt , Louis nnd New York both had buying
orders in this market , which xvcro felt nt
bottom prices. Ilulcbinson sold wheat early
nnd there was selling traced to Cudaby.
Opinions differed on the present storm.
Manv regarded it as Meet and hard on the
flolilrt and others saw positive good in the
snowfall. Altogether the local trade was
bonrinh carlv , but when the market failed to
decline scalpers bought their wheat back.

Tut ; MM : j CATTIE The market today was
s'ow early owing to the light offerings , the
severe storm delaying trains , nnd not more
than half a day's arrivals were yarded up to
noon. The feeling was one of more or less
llrmncss and sales indicate strong \ester-
daj's llgures. The inclement weather also
had a tendency to keep buyers , % hose ordeig
wcro not urgent undercover. Good uutch-

in this line was quickly picked up at better

Nrw YOIIU , March 2S [ Special Telegram
to TUB Hic.1 : It. U. Dun & Co.'s weekly
review of trade says :
At Cleveland. Detroit , Chicago , Mllwau
kce and Omaha some improvement In the
volume of business was seen , and at Chicago
cage especially the receipts of corn have
averaged 500,000 Diishels daily and drcssej
beef receipts were 3,5'K'OJO pounds , airatnst
S70.000 for the amo week last i car , with
dealings In clothing heavier , but In dry
t'oods and boots and shoes somewhat lighter.
At St. Paul trade win somewhat quiet. At
Kansas City there was no marked improve
ment. At St. Louis the volume
of trailu Is fair. At Louisville all
communication has been rut off by
a tornado , which lias caused great
losn. At Pittsburg both the iron and glass
trades nro dcprc"Ri'd , with no change ir > coal.
Philadelphia notes Rome rallIn Iron , stag
nation and concessions in wool , manv looms
Idle in textile manufactures gencrallv and a
fair trade in other branches. At Hostou
boiler weather has brought better trade.
The monov markets of the interior are
fairly supplied , easier at Boston and Phila
delphia , without much pressure to place
commercial paper ; steady at Chicago , a little
closer at Cleveland and rather embarrassed
at Salt Lake by thu locking np of laifjo
amounts In teal estate speculation , bat at
all other points reporting sunlciontlv sup
plied for tlie present demand , which is gen
erally moderate. At Nuw York 3jj per cent
has been the ruling i ate on call , and treas
ury disbursements exceeding by f.l.M)0 ) oou
the receipts far the week have dispciscd
nuj.lety.
Kxports of morchandisj for four weeks
from Mow York Irive exceeded those of the
same weeks last year by 5 per cent. In the
light of these reports and facts His most
remarkable that payments through banks nt
the different cities continue to show
so great an inereaso over lust year.
At Boston , Philadelphia and Chicago
taken together the increase last
week was ) per cent , and nt all otlur
cities outside ot Now York just tlm aitim * ,
and movements of products make il certain
that at least a considerable part , of this in
crease is duo to expansion in legiliinnto
trnilo. Speculation in products has been re
stricted. Porl : products are steady. Copper
is stronger abroad , but quoted ut 11
cents hero for lake , and tin also is
stronger abroad , but quoted here nt 20'4
cents.
In general the markets are much less dis
turbed oy speculative excitement and ma
nipulation than is usual. Pittsburg also
stio'ws a further full of 25 to 50 cents per ton
and prices of manufactured products
uro weakeningthiro. . Lower quo
tat ions are made for rails at the east ,
S31 50 being named , and bar iron is pressed
downward by the offerings of eastern mills.
There are well known circumbtnnees , which
account for much of the un ertainti in busi
ness , but these caiifp ? are not of a perma-
ni-nt nature , and the volume of trade in
progress baa never been surpassed at
this season. No improvement is seen in
woolen goods and sales of cottons and such
as are usual at this season
' 1 ho business failures occurring through
out the countrj during the last hcvcn ila\s
number 34' ) , as compared with a total of 255
last week. For the corresponding weeK of
last year tSio failures were 240.
