All the entire western portion of I'arkland , which lies just beyond the oouthwestern limits of the city , was wrecked. The storm struck that plaeo before rcachinf ? the city and its course was n moat peculiar one. It did not move in a direct line , mowing down u path before it , but wont about Its drJudful work in a zigzag fashion. On the outskirts of the town the two-story brick residence of Mayor ICoppers was struck by the wind aim entirely demolished. The occupants escaped. A Kreat number of houses wore blown down , but tlio minutes were nil up and everyone miraculously escaped , only a few being injured and they not. seriously. The track of the storm in Parkland was about tnrco blocks wide. Joflersonvillo was struck by the cyclone at S o'clock. It w.is very distinctly heard two mile.in the country where tlio people won dered what it meant. Dozens of poonlu had marvelous escapes from instant death. According to the latest reports this evening it is hoped none of those injured will dio. The damage to steamers on the river front was considerable. It is believed tonight that the loss ana damage to ptoperty in Jefferson villa will aggregate fully $ . iOU,00 ! ) . When the tor nado struck thu river front it picked up a skiff moored there and carrying it along dashed it through the second story window of IJoruoy's residence. At the foot of Front street a shanty boat , occupied by Henry U'llUins and his wife unit thrco children , capsized unit the inmates would have drowned but for a number of car works employes , who heroically risked their own lives and saved them. Three men wcro caught in the railing timbers of a two-story building ami liurned entirely to n blackened and charred mass in full view of the peoulo in the street. St. John's church was completely wrecked , the trees in thu [ mrhs uprooted , the fountains laid Hat and the very mud Irom the streets raked up and dashed against tno wrecked houses and Walls. The tornado took the middle of the Louisville railway building at .lofforsou and Twelfth streets , the southwest corner , leaving the north and south ends intact. It looks UB if an immense scoop had been taktin out of the middle. The track of the tornado ended at Twelfth street on Jefferson , and while the destruction between Kleventh and Twelfth was terrible , the block between Two ! fill nnd Thirteenth was intact , except an unroofed liouso or two besides the railway building.
