THE Hin. : ] Whcitl took a tumble In price
today. The break up to 10 o'clock was just
Ic from ttic close last nl ht. That the break
ilkl not corno earlier anil was not even more
decisive was tluo very largely to the stead v-
liik' effect of llutcliinson's heavy buying.
Otherwise tratlo was iiretty well dlvideJ
early , with Lyon , Logan , Lntnson nnil Hyiler
lending the tuylnir , followed by many who
\rcro buyinc nguinst puts. Selling at the
snlo hour was load byV. . U. McL'orinlck it
Co. , fc'chwartz .t Dupoo anil later by
Dunn nnd Geddus and New York
orders. This was the altitude of trade
until nrar noon , when the market pave way
nnd went to SOo for May. At this figure It
caught a host of stop loss orders nnd selling
became general and declines went to " ' . ' . ' < jC
or lu under the bottom and closing price
yesterday. Juno opened at SO c and also
went off to 70Je. . July sold nt 7fv'iit ' ; cnrly
uml off to 77'Vo ' before 1 o'clock. Tno news
of the day was mostly bearish. Kven croo
news was not nil bulllsti. St. Louis oou-
tiitued to claim 20 to 40 per cent of
damage in parts of Illinois nnd
br.upht on such news , but \Vcrst.
wired from the south that Tennessee
wheat will be mostly all right with favor-
nbln wc&tncr. HraJstrcet's cave a decrease
of 17,000,000 buhelft in available stocks east
of the Hocky mountains. Now York dispatches -
patches say that Russian and continental
ports arc open nnd Russia shipping wheat.
This , whether confirmed or not. had its
effect. Ton minutes before the close May
bad recovered but ) to from the bottom
price. The news tl.iit all continental ports
arc open and KIIBSIII shipping wheat freely
was pretty well confirmed Into In the day
r.nd wheat did not make nny recovery of
importance. Closing prices were : March
79'c , May 7'.isj'c , Juno 705io. ; July 77J c , or
J4C better than the lowest price.
Corn was heavy all day tmd stiles for May
were liberal during the lust hour nt 20\c.
The main feature of the market' remains un
changed. Receipts were enormous. The
selling in the pit was by parties having corn
bought In ttie country. At 20r , ! < c Mr Hutchinson -
inson bought perhaps half a million bufhels.
Closing prices of lending futures were :
April 3Jfc , May Sll c , .luno ; ! 0@no'o ( , July
! )0 ) @ ; tlc and September H2'ijC.
In oats May sold at 22' c and closed at
22e : Juno nt 21 0 and closnii nt 21 * c ; July
'JIJffJIJ ? ! < o and closed at 2l,6 r 21 c. There
was little now In trade.
There is a more uctivo feeling in the pro
vision trade. Tno animation , though not
general , is accompanied by oettor prices.
An undesirable feature is that
when the activity ceases prices sag
back to former figures. The feature
of the market todny wasfrco buying of May
pork by Hutchinsoti , while Armour & Co.
sold July. In lard Hutehiiifion and New
\orksold. In ribs New York orders nnd
Hnldwin wcru on the selling sido. The best
prices of the duv in lard and ribs were made
early. Alny ribs touched. 0.17 , but wont
off to ? T > 12. . Lard touched ffti.'JOfao.22J < for
May and jt-.liO for July and then weakened.
May per onencd at $10.55 , sold nt $10.00 ( < i-
10,02' i to 10.57HuilO.0 ( ( ! at the close. July
pork sold at IIU.JS , closing nt § 10.72Jf.

market toward the end of the hour became
Btill duller and the movement scarcely per
