The school election yesterday was rrfther tauio compared with the ono the week be fore , yet there was sufficient Interest mani fested to cause the polling of a vary large vote. The only contest was between Messrs. Wnlto and Elwoll , as Lawson was not In the race , nnd Mr. Wells was not scratched at all. There were several who voted the citi zens' ticket who substituted Elwoll's name for Walto , but there were many more who voted the democratic ticket and scratched Lawson for U'olls. The only effort was to defeat Lawson. and when that was assured everybody was apparently satisllod. The only contest was made in the Second ward , Where several challengers were at work during the day , but there were very few illegal voters who tried to deposit a ballot. It was very quiet and orderly around all the polling places , and oxcout in their immediate vicinity there was no indication that an elec tion was in progress. The returns came in early nnd but little time was required to count tlio vote on ac count of the little scratching that was dono. First Ward Citizens ticket : Wolla 333 , WaiteSOS. Some of the readers of TUB BEE wore yesterday morning surprised at finding folded in their paper the democratic ticket. The well-known policy of THE Bun in sup porting the citizens' candidate for the school board seemed hardly consistent with this kind of a scattering of democratic tickets. It appears that ono bf the sons of Lawson , thu democratic nominee , took advantage of his position as manager of the carriers nt that early hour In the morning , nnd had the papers thus packed ut the Council Bluffs office. It is evident that the young Lawson - son is rattier ol a chip , and the old block doubtless was not far away. The only harm done by the boyish trick was to the beardless politician himself , who will now hunt for some new Job. It seems that the scheme wan not con lined to Tin : linn , as not only young Liwson but several others in the employ of the boy's father were engaged In n conspiracy to float the tickets. 'Taking ndvnntage of his position on the school board , the older Lawson required thu Janitors of snmo of tlio school buildings to turn out ut an early hour for tins purpose. They were K'VOII ' tickets and ordered to waylay the cnrrium ot other morning papers as they loft their various oftlces , and bribe them to distribute the tickets with their papers , The pitm worked lu nearly every instance , and the regular newsboys were also Included ( n the scheme. U simply shows whttt desporalo chances Lnwson was willing to take to bo rn-olootod , and the cit izens of the Hindu may well congratulate themselves because when the votes were counted thu Individual who would stoop to such despicable work was overwhelmingly snowed under. lros-i .Mnk inn.
