CHIOAUO PIIOUUOC CHICAGO , March 5 , | Spaclal Toloeram to Tun Hin. ] The wheat markotstartcd steady thin morning subject to anv influonoo which might develop. In tbo early news there was nothing of Importance. Hoard oftrato fig ures Increased wheat on passage 1,010,000 bushels. Cables were not of nny importance cither way. Shipments for the week from. India nnd liunlsi to the United Kingdom and the continent were but 1,800,00 ! ) bushels , against 2,310,000 bushels n year ago. There was no great pressure to neil wnoat hero and offerings at Minneapolis wuro very li ht , with millers buyers. Now York cloarou 50- 000 bushels of wheat and Philadelphia a lit tle ; Baltimore , noiio. Schwartz & Dupoo were the leading buyers here , oltlior for Hlooro or I'nrdrldso. MoCormick & Co. and William Dunn wore leading sellers early. With these condition * may opened at 79ffe ? , sold nt rO OroX" to 702f@79&c to 79 0 to 79X - Then cumo the heavy storm ( lore. Wlmt fell in Chicago had 'a wonder ful ofToct on sontlnicnt regardless At what fell on wheat fields as a blanket. Foreign npcnU were among the first to begin realiz ing , The crowd thought it ought to oppose I'ardrlugc , who was talking bullish. An liourlntur May wheat was oil to 7c , or just lu under the best price of the ninnung. Figures purporting to be Uradstreot's gave n decrease In stocks east of the Uocky mountains for the wcelc at 1,800,000 bushels. There wns some room taken for wheat not yet bought at Now York. At 1 p. m. Mnv wus steady at 79e , Juno sold at 79 > { o ana off to 78-iic and July at 77 @ 77o and off to 709 o. 'Iho local trade continued to sell wheat to the close. One trade wan made In May 78c , the extreme low point , and the close wus at 78 fc , or J < o under the close yesterday. Other closing prices wore : March , 77/jf ; June , 78X ° i July , 70Xe. The corn market wan weak compared with wheat yesterday , but considering the break in wheat today corn was I Irmly held. A very material Inilucnca worked against the market also. Sellers of corn were those who have it bought in the country , with some selling on country orders. There was no Inspection here. Prices wore : March , 2i > Ko ; Mav. 2929Xc , closing at 29J { @ 29'tfo. Other closing prices were. April , 2& ; < o ; June , 0o ; Julyj UOJ BO c , August , 81c ; September , SKio. Outs were traded in moderately and n Blcady jcolmg prevailed. There was , however - over , no now features developed , find price changes were small. Of ferings were liberal on all strong spot" , but on any show of weakness there appeared to bo a liberal demand. May was the principal feature traded in and charges were made from regular No. 2 to No. 2 white at lJ.Cc difference. Car lots of No. 2 in Btoro were slow at ! iOj @ 20 c. No. 2 white for May met a fair demand and prices ad vanced } 4C. Sales were at 22rtJ23tfc. ; Hulher an easy fooling prevailed in the market for hog products , r nd slightly re duced pulcci were accepted for leading speculativearticles. . Grain markets wore weaker and attracted loss attention , and receipts of hogs were larger than generally anticipated , , with prices favoring buyers. Eastern markets indicated u weaker feeling in that qunrtor. while advices from abroad exhibited a little more steadiness , accompa nied with higher prices for some articles. Uceeipts of products wore only fair und shipments wcro nuito liberal , especially of meals and lard. Huecu- lativo offerings were somewhat larger and credited to realizing by parties who have boon on the long slno of the mar ket. Outsulo orders were moderate and favored the selling tide. The volume of business was comparatively light and fluc tuations in prices were continod within a mall range nnd tbo market closed nt about Inside figures. Trading wus mainly in contracts for May and July deliveries with some business in transfer on the differences lOo on moss pork , lOc on lard nnd lOo on ribs. Very little was done in near deliveries and an Impression prevails that trades are well provided for this side of May delivery. In the shipping branch of trade the fooling was tlrm. Holders are in dependent in their views and there is a litvlo more inquiry , especially on export account. Sales were moderately largo and in souio cases slightly higher prices were realized.
