EAGLES FISH FOR TROUT
Tlioy Tnke Up the IjIiich Placed In a
Sii-ouiii by Lumbermen
A curious story comes from Clotirflelil
county , says a Hurrisburg ( Pa ) special
.to the No5v York Sun Mosquito crook
ilows through ft wdodeil part of thut
county , and the stream is as full of trout
as the tlenso forest is nlivo with various
ldiuls of birds The eagles find n peace
ful homo tbero , und they nro jiloiity ,
too Some tlmo ago a party of lttmbor-
moii bethought thorr.solves that it would
bo a good schema to cutch the trout thut
. inhabit Mosquito crock They could not
spare the tlmo to fish with rod und line ,
and Franklin Huverstmw , the Inventive -
ivo genius of the camp , suggested the
ldcu of tying lines to bottles The
iinxt day the crook wuh full ot bottles
with lines on thorn Tlioy had good
luok for awhile until tlio bottles bognn
to disappear To solve tlio mystery a
watch wus put upon tlio llshmg tackle ,
and Havorstraw and Christ Moore
woni.on guard A day passed , but the
bottles were undisturbed , and a good
moss of lish was caught However , the
two moil saw sovorul cnglos perched
high in the treetops , looking suspici
ously into the water below Then they
would soar uround aud lly close to the
crook , quickly going to the highest
limb of the tallest tree when they saw
the men
urns singular action oi the birds sot
Havorstraw to thinking , and when ho
told his partner that it . was his belief
that the bottles were carried off by the
eagles Mporo 6Couttfu tlio idea Havor
straw was firm in his convic
tions and the next day the two
men hid themselves among • the
loaves At 8 o'olock in the morning
three largo birds came in singht They
sat on a tree for an hour Then , fooling
euro thut tlioy were unobserved , they
mudo a descent and each caught abottlo
in Its claws and carried it to the bank
Each line had u iiho trout on it , which
the eagles proceeded to devour The
mon were dumbfounded For the first
time in their lives they saw an ouglo
eating a fish Havorstraw aud Moore
remained in their , hiding place To
their surprise the birds made another
trip to the river Ouly ono line had a
lieh on it , but the other two birds car
ried the bottles and lines to the shore
Doforo they could devour the ono llsh
lliivorstraw ami Moore ntipcarotl on the
scene and tlio birds now olT The
grounds were then searched , nnd many
ot the missing lines anil bottles were
found To shoot the eagles was the
next measure adopted , and on the fourth
dtiv two of the birds were killed The
third flow awny and was not soon again
