Christine's eyes had fallen upon a distant figure crossing nt the further end of the palace , a woman's figure running with bowed head , and holding in her arms , wrapped in a shawl , some thing that struggled weakly. 'Ibis woman , hoon through the rain and fog , presented a strange and bturlling as pect ; bho ran like a thief who hud ac complished her work , dragging behind her in the mud of the slrcot , her dirty tatters , and keeping close in tlio shadow of the walls. Ah !
