Tun HBP. . ] The majority of traders In the
Wheat pit operated to-ituy on the thoor.v tlmt
tlioro hml boon lulvanco onouuli for the
present nnd that n reaction was in ordor.
The volume of outslda business was so
large , however , that the olterln s were ab
sorbed , nml efforts to break tlio market , and
keep It dawn proved inoiTectuul. Buvcral
little bonrloh Hurries occurred during the
Bcsnlon , but the market recovered with the
buoyancy of cork , nnd lost ground was ro-
pained without straining. In contrast to the
general strength of futures , September
worked off slowly from the outsat , K ° ln ( ?
from 80o at the opening to TOJ c , but cloning
at 80j ! c. The amount of long wheat thut
was sold out to-day was largo enough to
have swamped the market ordinarily. Dun
ham ft Co. , Milmlno , Uodnrin , Huxtor , Llnd *
bloom and the whole list of Important
commission houses had realizing orders and
pointed out wheat all tlay. Hulchinson was
also a seller ou a huge scale. The fouturo
noticed , however , was u largely Increased

accounts. Purtndgo , John Qulncy Adams ,
Phillips and SU Louis boars \voro credited
with nn extensive covering. During the
middle of the session tlioy nnpcnrod again as
Boilers , but on u sharp bulge toward the lant
of the session they ouuo more nclped prices

sentiment. Foreigners are investing mod
erately In futures on the improvement , IUH
they are taking all tlio hard wheat In Duluth

, in the bauds of several Duluth parties for
cash wheat. Towards the end of ttio session
it leaned out thut quite a llttio line was
worked in Now York also. The llgntuess of
the out-movomont from the seaboard for the
Vast couple of weeks was reflected to-day In
one passage statement , xvhich showed a de

wheat. The movement ol wheat in the west
ib not changing in character or volume. De
cember wheat opened at Sic , sold up to 81 c
and oil to bUJ o. This was ttio bottom , and
an advance which started from that point
carried the price to 81J c. Realizing
nnd renewed selling for the "snort"
uccount sent , the iimrUct back to 8lYo ; , but u
second bulge lifted it to 8IJi@ J6 ( ? . The
market worked slowly down to Sljs'c , and
about half past 13 o'clock It started up once
more , and didn'tstop until 82'jj't ; was roaclieil.
A big battle was fought nt bio and the last
quotation was 81c. or 1 cent bettor than
yesterday. A "whalmii" big trade was
done in May. This delivery opened ut 84 c ,

May delivery , and it was largely on account
of his sales that this month did not Iccop in
Hue with December. As It was , last prices

better than yesterday.
The corn market was in a measure no-
elected by speculators for the superior at
tractions presented by the activity in wheat-
Dealings wore chiolly on local account ana
the tendency appeared toward still lower
prices except when temporarily supported
by the strength and activity of wheat. Sep
tember opened nt 'UJ e , sold nl 31c and
at 3'c , and closed ut SilKc. or } { a lower than
on yesterday , and October declined 3 c.
Oats were at no time active , ruling easy ,
nnd aside from a moderate business In May
the speculative trading was light. The
month named opened steady at 22c aud
subsequently sold down to 23o , with that
constantly bid and sales chiefly ut a split.
Near mouths were dull and about
} a lower , after n quiet nnd steady
tone , early. While the offerings
were but moderate , the buying support was
mongro and the short interest was pro
nounccd unimportant. Receipts and ship
ments were only fair and a light trade was
recorded in No. outs to go In store at 10).fc ,
with the cosh business chiefly by sample.
In provisions there was a little revival of
the old time interest. The continued bull
movement in wheat evidently influenced
other speculative lines rnoro or less. It
made parties short in the different markets
feel somewhat uneasy and in prorislons ut
loust developed n decided disposition to
cover. This inclination when started was
also further encouraged by lighter offerings
of property than were anticipated , and un
upward turn m the price of bogs , the
receipts of which fell short ol
expectations. Tne professional bears
bought quite freely to-day against their out
standing contracts , and the trade from the
Bturt commanded considerable attention ,
The movement ulno favored holders , and
with a single exception of October pork ,
which was hold at $1 0.1)5 ) , closings all
around showed n substantial advance. In
September and October lard the advance
nuulo was 7Kc , in September short ribs

Cattle
Tuesday , Sept. 24.
The cattle market was steady again to-dny
and was fairly active on all grades of cattle ,
beeves , butchers' stock , feeders and stockers ,
The receipts of cattle , though not very
heavy for a Tuesday , show a decided gain
over the corresponding day of last week.
Among the offerings thcro was quite a
sprinkling of natives mid some very desira
ble beeves. Native steers sold nt $3,15@
4.27)4 , the latter price being paid for a very
choice bunch of 1,5'iS Ib beoves. Butchers'
stock was in pretty fair supply and was about
all sold. The quality of the cow stuff was
nothing extra on an average , good fut cows
being scarce. Native cows sold at $ l.2."i@
2.25. The offerings of feeders were largo and
there were plenty on sale , both natives nnd
westerns. The supply , however , was none
too largo for the demand as there were a
good many buyers here. The market was
active and the sales were large. The prices
wore about the same as yesterday. A big
string of natives went nt pricoa ranging from
$2.20@2.90 and a good many westerns sold at
l2.5tK.s2.75.
Ho-8.
To day's general hog market was 5@10o
hicher. The packers were strong buyers of
heavy hogs , as well as the shippers , and the
bulk of the offerings were soon picked up
largely at t3.8.r > @ 3 9 ! ) The supply of light
hogs wns small , and , although thcro was a
good shipping demand , the buyers found It
dlfllcult to fill orders. There were so few
lignts in the loads that it would not pay sell
ers to sort , and they could sell the loads
mixed to better advantage. Good mixed
hogs sold readily at J3.90@1.00. A few lights
were sorted up in second hands $4.05 , which
did not show so much advance , light sorts
selling on last Saturday up to 3I.02&
Stir-op.
There were a good many sheep hero again
to-day and thcro was considerable trading at
about steady prices.
