CniCAno , Sept. 10. fSpoclal Telegram ( o THE llr.n.l The murknt was again llrnlor nnd mnrkoil a further upprccliition In the prlco of wheat. There wns no general or prolonged activity , but trading wns of sufll- clent Interest to keep the shorts within easy calling by the balance ot the pit Tlio bal ance of sentiment favored tno bull side , and , M usual In such cases , magnified the Items In the dally budget of news bearing in ttirrt direction , nud belittled these of the opposllo tendency. Tbo government report , indicat ing as it did some gcnor.il reduction in the outlook for the combined crops of winter aud spring wlioat , was the most legitimate cause for a bull feeling among the news items on to-day's ' inarUct and possibly exerted more Influence than anything else. Boyoml this and u slightly better tonn to the Enullsh markets , the circumstances affecting Values remained as before. The export clearances were light nnd the demand on foreign ue- count hero and ut the seaboard was Insignificant. It should bo stated , however , that an exporter on the floor hero ascribed the lack of foreign orders to the scarcity of No. 2 wheat on the market , but again , on the other hand , unothor gentleman who recently bought u large parcel of Da * lath hard wheat in that , market for foreign account , advised having resold it there. There Is arid 1ms been un excellent shipping dcuiund for Chicago No. U , which passes muster In Now York nnd elsewhere as u good milling nrtlclo without the necessity of artlllclnl polish. There were some round lots of It sold hero to-day at more than could bo obtained for it yesterday. December opened firm nt 73c , fluctuated bcUvcjn that and 7Sc , touching 7S c at ono time , and near the close it rose to T8j c and cloiud at nM&nc. or ubout % e over Its resting prlco ycstunlny. To the agricultural bureau's report on the corn crop was ascribed the firmer opening to to-day's ' market for that article. Upon careful sifting , however , con siderable difference of opinion wus found to exist among floor operators regarding its true bearlnu upon the market. A firm In New York considered their deduction , based upon tbo government's figures , of sufficient importance to bo wired hero. Their figures made an oven 2,000,000,000 bushels of the growing crop. Montana and Dakota re ported killing frosts la spots and some nerv ousness wus induced from that fact. The buying of September by Mr. Hutchlnson maintained that delivery a greater part of the tune nt a premium of } gu over October. May was comparatively steady. The local traders fllk'd themselves at the opening and the remainder of the time they were occu pied in an attempt to disgorge their eurly purchases without loss , September opened at 83c , declined lo 33 > c , sold imnln to U.Wc and closed nt that. October closed at 83(33c. ( : Oats presented few features of Interest , ruling quiet uud stead/ linn and appar ently dominated in a measure by corn , as lor some time past. The shorts wanted u few near futures nnd September sold } go higher at 1'JKc , with next month at one time touching \9v , but trading was chiefly In May , which sold at 2JI ® 33ifc. The receipts exceeded the estimates by ! W cars , and out of 198 cars Inspected in , 04 cars , or nearly naif , were contract oats. No. 2 regular was quiet at lUjffc. ) No. 3 white oats for future account were neglected. The provision trade is still in a nervous condition. The January product again showed considerable strength to-day , and in the way of speculation also attracted in creased attention , This was particularly true of pork , * which appeared to bo In demand from shorts anxious to realize profits on their outstanding contracts afforded. . In October pork there was some selling by brokers credited with "being llutehinson's representivos. Itopenuii nt $11.25 , or 15o under .yesterday's closing , declined Irregularly to $10.00 , and closed ul $11.00 , or 40u lower. Lard and short ribs for September declined for the uay 2) < c , resting at $5.90 for the first mentioned article , and at * 5.QO for short ribs. For October , lard sold at ? 5.8.r(35.UO ( and closed at $5.87 } , or ut unchanged prices. Short ribs for October appreciated 2 c , closing at $4.00 after rang ing at $4.5 ( < 8l.lH ) . Short ribs for the same montn stood ul the close ut $4.02 } $ and both lard und pork stood at the outside prices touched. The crop figures given out at Washington last night were not BuftlclonUy changed from last month to affect the market. The meeting of St , Paul directors to-day causes much an ticipation. The fresh receipts of stockcrs nnd feeders were not very largo , but taken with the hfildovnrs mndo very liberal offerings. There was con siderable inquiry for good feeders , nnd there were n good many buyers In the yards , but the buyers and Hollers appeared to bo slow In coming toeothcr. Itozs. , The market on licht boss took nn upward turn of 5c to-day , but the quality wns bettor nnd the hogs lighter , so that there wns not BO much difference ns might appear from tlio sales , 'i'ho market was nctlvo nnd salesmen found no difficulty In cleaning up all their lightweights. The bulk of the lightweights went nt ? 3.95 with ono load at ? 4 00. The market on heavy hogs wns not qulto so fa- vorublo to the fiolline interests. Values de preciated GQlOc nnd the market was not very nctlvo , salesmen being backward about letting go of their holdings. A clearance , however , wns effected ut n reasonable narly hour.
