points arc increasing. Arrivals of winter
wheat do not average up well in point of
quality. Duluth Is getting tlio finest wheat ,
it3 : cars out of 151 received to-day grading
No. 1 hard. Minneapolis Is receiving a larger
tiroportlon \ > t lower prnJcs than Duluth.
Winter wheat that Is coming to tha front
now Is not supposed to represent tlio quality
of the crop. A peed deal of wheat that waft
anmagcd by tlio harvest rains is being mar-
kotcd'and gotten out of tha wny. This is
supposed to account for tlio dlsproportlonuto
amount of low grade gram that is shown in
its returns. Spring wheat millers nro llgur-
Intr on four bushels of wheat making a barrel
of flour this year. Last year nearly

in tlio avcnuro crop In winter wheat this

plies will bo larger than last year or any
average year , which must depress values

the opinion that on account of the excellence
of the quality of the crop there will bo u big
demand for our surplus at good prices. It is
qulto plain , however , thut outside interest
in the deal lags , and any Important advance
in the nbficnco of general popular Inquiry is
not looked upon us likely to occur. This ,
however , is a feature that is liable to com-
pluto change in any twenty-four hours , The
dullness of to-day may give place

indicate any such speculative metamorpho
sis , howovnr. Price changes to-day worn
comprised within limits of about Jfc. Spec
ulative trading was not spirited , and it was
small in volume. The heavy weights oper
ated In a small way , and the little follows did
a small business or did nothing. Outside
trading In wheat xvas not up to the average ,
though public interest in the other articles
dealt in on 'Ohungo brought the total busi
ness up to a satisfactory uggroiMtc. In the

worked 68,000 bushels of No. B red for Now
York. The opening quotations were 77 c

greater part of the session was held at TUc or
fractionally above. The last quotation was

The corn market opened with a consider
able number of small lots for sale. The re
ceipts wcro within a few cars of the previous
estimates at C70 cars. There wore n number
calculated as arrivals for to-morrow. The
Liverpool market was quoted as being
strong , nnd the oaily demand for cash offer
ings was brisk at about % c advance on yes
terday's sales. The area of low temperature
was apparently moving slowly eastward ,
light frosts being reported from points la
Nebraska and Iowa , although no damage to
r corn has so far resulted. There was nerv
i ousness , however , regarding the situation ,
which hindered selling except in tlio way of
unloading previous purchases at some profit.
There was a fair amount of activity in the
pit. and after selling down r.bout ) { ® % c
from the opening figures , more firmness and
a reaction took place , with some nervous

Oats partook of the general quietude pres
ent in the speculative markets , with only a
fair business recorded at a narrow range.

unexpectedly small receipts and the
prcscnco of a few buying orders.

disappeared , prices receding to 13a and
later ruling a trillo steadier. Fair quantities
of oats were delivered on September con
tracts and near months were eusy with only
mengro support given. A moderato business
was douo in No. 2 outs to go to store , which
wcro about steady at ID o for regular. No.
2 white for September sold at 21Jfc.

bearish. The opening was qulto strong , but
in different lines except October pork.
There was a disposition to sell the market
down. October pone was iireelilar ; but on
the whole higher than yesterday. In that

to-ilay and appeared satisfied with Impress ,
ing upon too trade the fact that the market

Another dull day In the cattle market.
The packers bought very sparingly and tbo
demand was light. The fccllug wits very
weak and oven good beeves were unable to
hold up to formur prices. A buyer remarked
that ho was olTorcM irood natives at n rcduc- ,
tlon uf lOc , and thai ho would not buy unless
ho could get them that much lower. Sales
men who Imtl pretty good stuff , but on the
coarsish order , could not got u bid. Good
western cattle were porhupj no lower than
they have bcon , but so few have been sold
during the past few davs that it Is hard to
suy Just whut the market really Is. There

a bunch of good corn-fed westerns sold nt

There was nn advance of Bff lOe on mixed
hogs , while llcht weights nnd the best heavy
hogs sold nt about yesterday mornltig'3
prices. The market was active at the ad
vance und an early clearance was effected.
The rccoipt.3 were the lightest of the week
and lighter than last Thursday by about 400
hoad. Operators do not look upon the ad-
vauco as anything permanent , but only as
the direct result of the falling off In the ro-
colpts. . _
