on reasonable terms. Dispatches from the
northwest claim lliu heaviest crop of spring
wheat for Minnesota which that state has
developed In years , nnd ridicule the reports

lation. Late cables from the board of trade's
correspondent quoted the market at Liver
pool as closing llrm , but numerous private
dispatches reported a decline of from Jfd to
Id on clearing weather , and It was this

tralized the effect of the bull dispatches
chalked upon the bulletin boards. The free
outward movement of now wheat is an en
couraging feature of the trade at present.
The. corn market showed n little more
strength to-day , and closed with September
about } 4c bettor than it closed yester
day ana May about % o better. The
shipping demand continues nctlvo and
offerings were readily absorbed and the
feeling was steady nnd firm. The continued
cool weather and the already backward con
dition of the crop causes some littlu nervous
ness among the shorts and there was some
efforts to cover , which caused a steady ,
strong market most of the session.
Oats exhibited considerable animation nnd
firmness , with s | > cculntlvo trading nt @ | fc
improvement. Keccipts , though large , were
less than expected and grading was only
fair , with but CS cars of contract In n
total of G01 inspected in. The Impression
prevailed that the market had been
somewhat oversold during the preced
ing three days. and there was
general buying , with September , October
nud May thefavorites. The last named sold
up to 24c after opening at 2-ij ! e , and next
ulai was In fair request at20 jfc.
Provision ! ) wcro again strong. The Im
proved feeling lately" developed wns more
than maintained nnd prices all around
reached n hiuhor levo 1 than that of yester
day. Hop arrivals fell short of expectations ,
the prouuct was offered only moderately for
anlc , and the surroundings of
the market rather favored the
bull side. The shorts also
considered it wise to protect their outstand
ing lines , and bought freely. Outside buy
ing , however , showed little or no increase.
For cash delivery lard sold to the extent of
500 tierces at $0.32J , and sixteen-pound
sweet nlcklcd hams to the amount , of two
carloads at OJ @ 'JXc. Cash dry salted meats
were taken sparingly by shippers oh private
terms. Speculative interest was confined
mainly to September , October and January.

the native line , xvith prices ranging from
strong to a shade higher for beet natives ,
"and the same old story on common , " saul a
xvearlcd salesman that had such. Rough ,
grassy and medium stock , ns n matter of
course , wcro sold out , but a salesman hud to
'peddle" all forenoon before ho could get a
customer. The trouble was that there was
too many fair to good Texuns , and buyers
nlways prefer that stock to ordinary and com
mon native , especially when Tcxnns nro
cheap. The receipts of Texans numbered
about 3,000 and sold from a shade lower to
steady. Native butchers' stock was steady ,
and there was only a light business in stack
ers and feeders. There wcro ton loads
of range cattle on the market that
made satisfactory prices as compared with
recent aulcs , ono lot going as high .as 1.60.

petus to buying orders in nearly all granger
etocUs , conservative traders said Uurllngton
wa& coed for 104 during August. It has more
than mot the expectations , licfore noon to
day that stock moved up straight to 10IV ,
It was not alone in Its strength. Atchlson
touched 87X nurt fell back a fraction , Hock
Island sold at JS ) > { aud oft to Oi'f , St. I'uul ,
Missouri Pacific , Heading , and Northern Pa-
cilia preferred were especially active and
strong. The strength was not as evenly dis
tributed as on Monday. Missouri I'ucltle
went up ] } f per cent to 71. Other prominent
gains were Lake Krlo & Western preferred
1 pur cent , AtchUon % nnd Cleveland , Co
lumbus'Cincinnati & St. Louts ? „ ' . After
the first demand wus satisfied there was the
usual shading oil In values and the market
became were quiet. During the hours to 12
o'clock there wus no material clmngo in
prices beyond these mentioned. The strength
shown In stocks early did not hold. There
wcto heavy realizing sales at the advance
and prices yielded all around. In many hi-
stances the udvanco was entirely lost and
priocs closed lower than lust night. Hur-

The cattle market looked up to-day so far
as good beef cattle wore concerned , and yes
terday's decline wns recovered , the inaruot
being put back where it was on Saturday.
The receipts consisted mostly of natives ,
with ono train of rangers. Ttio quality of
the beeves was not very good on an average
and they sold largely nt M.75Q4.00. Tliero
wns ono bunch of toppy cnttlo for which
M.23 was olTored. The initrket on cow stuff
did not show much change , and to-day , s
offerings wont at S1.GOQ2.00 , with the bulk
nt $2.00C(4i.35. The demand was pretty good
for feeders , und there was considerable trad
ing for the limited number of caltlo hero.
Quito a string of feeders was eold lute yes
terday which did uot appear in yesterday's
report.
Hogs brought about steady prices to-day ,
