[ Special Telegram to rim UKB.I Wheat wai active nbd lower to day. A very pronounced boar feeling has been generating In the pit for the past any or two anil to-day there was a grand "letting go of bolts. " The shipping movement from nil western points Is unusually heavy , hut receipts , Instead of falling off after the tlrst of tHe montli , nro Increasing. Privatecnbtcs \vcro for the most part bearish , but several of them quoted higher prices at the close , And the board' ' * npcclnl cablegram was to tlio snn.u effect. Baltimore wired that exporters - porters were reselling and Now York parties made a similar contribution to the informa tion fund , and the facts so far developed scorn to bo somewhat at variance on the foreign situation and on foreign temper. In explanation of the changed ex pressions of the Now York exporting class , It was suggested by a broker that perhaps they were trying to depress the market to "limits" that would enable them to fill a foreign order. They sometimes do things thut way in Now York. The gossip mill ground Out a largo sized grist to-day. For instance , It was given out that the "of ficial" estimate of the French crop had been issued. On Inquiry it was learned that this official estimate was from a stray paragraph in a Liverpool paper , In which It was stated that an untmtncd ' 'contpmporary writer" had said that ho provisionally and with many whurcascs , If8 and unds , estimated the French crops nt 325,006,000 or 840,000,000 bushels , etc. , etc. Urndstrcct Issued a speculative bulletin to-day represent ing that the domestic stock of wheat had increased 1,000,000 bushels during the month of July , a 4,000,000 decrease cast of the Rockies and 5.000,000 increase west. This produced no effect whatever on account of the notorious unreliability of the grain de partment of that Journal and the evident sol- llsh purpose of these advance tips of forth coming publications. Of far greater weight than anything else was the estimate oi ! )25 cars of wheat for Chicago to-morrow. In this connection It might bo well to state that receivers have to report the arrival of con- eldcrubla now wheats in poor condition on recount of the unfavorable weather. The Inspection sheet shows that less than 40 per cent of the arrivals were of contract grade. Borne of the wheat Is coming in badly sprouted. It is too early yet to uiuuo an intelligent estimate as to the extent of the damage from rainy weather. Ttio prevailing impression is. however , that the'Injury that has resulted thus far is only Bltin.dcci > , us it * vcre , and that the great mass of wheat will coma out all right. December wheat opened at Tflc , sold down to 78J/C , hung around that figure for an hour or moro and then slipped off suddenly to 7S78X < 3. The price got bade to S % ® 78l c and about half past 12 o'clock It sold down to 78K@78c. During the hist half hour a firmer fcoliui ; prevailed In the market when the Iwt became gen orally known about largo cbartcrB. The close was at 782 0. September opened at 77) e , ranged nt 77J { @ 7Ge and closed at 7flJ c. August rangcu at 773 @ 7lc and closed ut TGJfc , with cash wheat at a premium over August. The feel ing at the close was decidedly loss bearish than at any tima during the day. The activity in the export und interior ahlpplnfr demand Is proving very clearly that wheat is wauled around present prices , and the bears are deprived of their principal weapon. In the aggregate a fairly largo speculative trade was do no in the pit. The active demand for corn nt the recently prevailing prices collapsed to-day and offer ings , for future delivery largely exceeded the buying orders on the market. Liverpool ca bles quotcd'a linn market in Liverpool , with locks thord of only 400,000 bushels , against 1,000,000 at the same time a year ago. Re ceipts hero were only 30 cars more than yes terday's calculation , and for to-morrow 040 cars were predicted. This increase was one of the causes which leu to the decline , be sides which the export clearances wore phe nomenally small yesterday. Futures were relatively weaker turn the spot article , all deliveries up to January losing from % c to Xo of yesterday's closing value , but Mujy was comparatively steady , closing nt 37Jf c Belters , which IB virtually unchanged from the day before. Oais were much more active than on pre vious days of the week , with prices dcclln. Ing about # @ ? ( fc. A good many stop orders appeared , and September , under the free Belling , went up to Slifc , while largo lines ol fllay were sold short at ' 5jh'c down to 24J c , later ruling slightly steadier. Receipts were materially larger , with an increasing proportion tion of new oats. Out of a total of 1M3 cars received CO were now. Withdrawals wort insignificant and car lots ot No. 3 chiefly tc po to store sold liberally at 21c , ' or % e de cline , A good business was done in No. S white , with August ut U5 o and September nt 25 c. In the provision trade the feeling was somewhat unsettled. Advices from the stock yards reporting light iccolpts and bet tor prices for hogs , opened the trading witli a good showing of strength , For a brio ] vimo the mafkot all around averaged higher than the level of yesterday. The closing ant ! early sales were quite encouraging to the bulls. Later , however , a changed condition of affairs was developed. It was ascertained thut packers , induced possibly by the monthly stock statement , which showed c much larger amount of moats on hand that was anticipated , were free sellers of short rib * . Offerings of the article named became excessive , and , as the market lor the same weakened , the entire deal was affected , Traders of all classes lost confidence , the de- Biro to realize increased , and prices took u downward course. During the lust half 01 BO on 'change the tendency was bearish nnd the lowest figures quoted were verj generally made at or near the closo. Ir pork the day's actual decline , compared will yesterday's last prices , was 10@15o , and it short ribs 10@12 } c. Lard closed uuchangci to 2J < o lower. CHICAGO JjlVJS STOCK. Cincuao , August 2.
