CHICAGO , July 25. [ Special Telegram to 'no ' URB. ] The wheat market hud over Jight h break of about # 0 , but It remained ( nlrly steady at the depreciation marked by no opening quotations. December opened i EOo aud swung Irresolutely between "i\ \ ) } { nil SOc nearly the whole of the session. H ccnslonnll.v pot o cbado below 799c nnd caslonully above SOc , but trading at the xtrcmcH was light. Hutchlnson bought on ibo llttlo brcaKs nnd sold on the llttlo rallies , being bent apparently on having an cay Say of It by keeping the market narrow , vhich ho was able to do on account of the lightness of outsldo bu.vlngs. Toward the nst , however , the market hardened apprccl- f ably , nnd ttio.prcvlous best limits wcro passed without scrloua effort. December went to and closed at 6Q } { . The action was slow , tbough , at tlio best. September wheat jheld , rather steadier than Decomocr. It ODcncd at 78c , fluctuated most of the day within the range of 77 @ 78 c , but it spurted at the last and closed t 78J a July opened at 82i' , ranged at 82@82Jfo und uloled Ht the outsldo. As compared with yesterday the closings record no change in July , und a shrinkage of ? if(3 ( o lu later futures. Tiado was not largo In tlio aggregate. Foreign news wns for the most part bearish. The majority of the private cables wcro easier , though , and Antwerp , Liverpool and Ham burg orders came jn early. The London Times keeps harping on the Russian and Hungarian deficiencies , but the alarm oc casioned by those and klnd-cd publications seems to bo conlincd principally to - . Now York tospeculators. re ports , an abatement of the ex port demands and seaboard clearance * arc petty. At interior markets In the west receipts continue only moderate. The out movement is unexpectedly large , consider ing the Benson. St. Louis Is shipping out moro than half as much us she is recclvlnir , and the percentage of Chicago shipments , as compared with tlio receipts , is still Inrccr. Some of this is export business , but it is mainly for Interior milling account. The "retail" cnsh demand is uctlvo locally , and good prices are paid for choice old wheat. The Itttlcfellowsof the local crowd are bullish as n rule , but most of the heavy woitrhts are cither bearish or on the fence. Hutchmson , It is thought , wants to BOO a steady market until the July shorts make known their determination. This matter will bo settled in a few days. Tno weather In the southwest is still showery and unfa vorable for threshing and moving wheat , but the Indications point to better weather , lialcor has bad crop news from Nebraska , Iowa and Southern Minnesota , but the over whelming weight of testimony on northwest ern crops is that the prospects tire dccli'cdly ' better than they wore up to two or three weeks ago. loglis , the "Dig Four" oxnort , ndvUcs his principals that the northwest will riilso a big crop. The Minnesota agricultural secretary baa made u retxirt by counties , which Indicates n 47.000.000 bushel crop in that state , 20,000.000 bushels moro than last year. The latest estimates make the nprmg wheat crop 45,000,0 0 bush els creator than last year , but these figure- are liable to very Important modification before the harvester returns are In. Considerable confusion grow out of the attempts to locate and understand the re port sent in to-day , but the details confirmed the original version. The slignt stimulus which the trading In the corn market received curly In the week was absent to-day and it relapsed Into dull ness and narrow fluctuations once moro. The receipts were about flfty cars under the estimates made yesterday , nnd forto-morrow the arrivals are estimated at J1SS oars , but. although those moderate quantities would ordinarily strougthcn the market , the weak ness In the wheat market moro than coun terbalanced their effect. The cable markets wcro weak and quotations lower. Shipping demand hero and at the seaboard was good and vessel engagement hero to-day foe CSO.OOObushels Indicates a continued f roemovo- mcut and chances for another decrease in the Visible supply during the present week. The closing quotations show very little changes from thosn of the preceding day. July rested at 'Mc , August at SOtfo and September at Oats wcro heavy to-day , sagging & @ &c. The weakness elsewhere influenced 10 the mar ket in a mild dcSj-reo. dnd there was also con rs siderable offering of No. 2 white oats for August and September , which tended to de press values. licccipts were fair and so wcro shipments , with about 180,000 bushels do- creuso in local stocks , but the condition of the uew crop favored the boars , and a few shorts bought July at 23 > .f @ ? 3o and A-uguot sold at aiKc. with No , 3 whlto at 25tfo. "Tho bulls hnvo hau nr. exceptionally good inning , nnd the moro sagacious ones , satis fied with the recent profits , have sold out or nro prepared to do so until n moro favornblo opportunity invites their return. Many of the big ooerators nro giving more attention to recreation thnn to business , and , if not actually nggresslvti on the boar side , are nt least giving the latter their moral support. Hence the bears dally prow In strength , both numerically and financially , and the proba bilities are that they , m turn , will secure ft fair inning bo'oro the upward movement is renewed. " The talk oftor hours last night was about the raid on Heading. Opinion was divided on the belief that Hamilton ft Lyman had let go their holdings and that the bears raided Heading to weaken other stocks where they wished to cover. Commission houses complain of dullness , and the ag gressive power scorns to bo temporarily out of the market. At the opening to-day , Lon don and Chicago appeared willing to buy on declines , but nothing moro. A big dry goods failure encouraged the bears in selling , and there was no good support early. First prices on moderately active business were from M to ; Y P r cent lower than last oven- Ing's closing figures. Further losses were confined to small fractions generally. A fexv stocks , however , displayed marked weakness ami gave to the market what character it possessed. Of these , Missouri Pnclllo and the now Cleveland , Cincinnati , Chicago & . Louis common stocks were the most prominent , each at the lowest point showing a net loss of 1 % per cent from last evcnlne's prices. Sugar refineries fell lf , Uurllngton & Qulney Jjf and Atchlww % per cent. The decline was cheeked before 10:30. however , and u rally followed the bulge which lasted to the end of the hour and put prices fully up to , and In a few cases slight fractious over the closing figures of last night. Trusts did not react ns strongly as railroad shares. The stock market made no decided change until the last hour , when the persistent buy ing of loncs , favorublo news and the chang ing of a few prominent bears to the bull side caused much nervousness among shorls. Tno buying to cover gave the market quite a bulge. Grangers and many other railroad stocks moved up a point or moro from the bottom figures and the closing prices were about the top , with the market broader and stronger than for some time.
