CHICAGO , July 1C. ( Special Telegram to
Tun I5)ii : . ] The ficusntion In the wheat irmr-
kct to-day was uftpccl.il cablegram published
this morning In Now York and In the Chicago
Tltnos , giving the main points In the crop
nnd market nrtlclo In the London Times.
The salient fonlurus of the articles wore
statements that tlio latent advices from Bom
bay show thru India will Imvo Uttlo or no
WhfH for shipment ; that Russia , Australia ,
Roumnnln and eastern Germany will not
raise more thun enough to feed themselves :
that western Europe and the United King
dom will rulso KO.OOO.OOO bushels more than
laflt jcnr ; nnd that the Oilcsnn grnlnerlcs are
almost empty , eta The nrtlclo concludes
with the statement tlmt the great Importing
countries of Europe will bo more at the
mercy of America this year than
usual. During the morning a vnrlaly
of nttempts were made to break the force of
this summary of the situation , but the con
clusions were nearly In accord with the
Ideas of the best Informed members that no
serious Impression wax made In the discred
iting. The news of tfm ticxt greatest Itn-
portanco was the further disappointment In
receipts of wheat hero and at all southwest
ern points. Uutny we athcr In the Ohio val
ley , Kansas nnd Missouri may account for
this In n great measure , but It la none the
less certain that the bears are greatly dis
gruntled over none of the realization of their
nigh hopes , based on the belief that there
was surely eolng to bo n huge early move
ment. Wheat was grown and will como Into
eight some time , but the bears arc losing the
moral effect ot the big early movement
counted on with sucti confidence. The mar
ket was weak and lower "in ofllces" yester
day , but this morning oponcd > l@t'o
up , with July quoted at 77J c , September at
70J > fe , and December at 78 ; < jc. December ad
vanced to 70&U and September to 7"c.
July , too , showed Its horns and advanced to
78fc , nnd then , on u second spurt , to 7Vj c.
The big break in July had its effect in dis
couraging country shipments , und holders
once more displayed nerve. July wheat was
a Bcarco article to-day. This may be auo in
part to the demand for cash wheat , which
was quite urgent ut times , and a reduction
in the cstinmtcd arrivals for to-morrow from
140 to Oil cars also had Its effect. The cash
wheat situation may bo quoted ns strong
everywhere to-day. December whcut re
acted from 79i } to 7 ) e , but the nm'rket re
covered Inter and the ground lost was nil
regained , though it was not entirely held.
The last quotations on the wheat list wore
as follows : July , TDK" ? August , 1Go\ \
September , 77o ; December , 78.JfJ < 379. ! These
prices mark a general advance us compared
with f yesterday , ranging from 5 c on the
long futures to Stfc I'or July. The volume
of trade was largo in the aggregate , A
gratifying increase in outsitlo orders was re
ported by commission merchants and trade
seems to bo "limbering up" somewhat.
Local professionals seem to bo about evenly
divided as to the merits of wheat , though
the market nets us though it might ho still
considerably oversold. Local engagements
of lake freigtit room for 80,000 bushels are
reported to-day. St. Louis received 83,000
bushels to-day. Foreigners were liberal
buyers hero and at New York to-day , and
yet , singular to relate , kept plugging this
market with bear dispatches up to the very
lost.
lost.There
There was a general disposition to sell corn
in view of the heavy outside movement
from here and the ready man
ner in which all offerings in
cash corn are absorbed. The Into rains Imvo
likewise retarded the growth , although the
prospect at present presented by the growing
crop Is encouraging for n irood yield In the
, -ibsenco of lurther accident. The uuwunt
tendency of the wheat market encouraged
the bulls In corn , nnd the price In 'tho end
was established ut a } { Q advance over yester
day's closing figures. July rested at 'Ao c ,
nnd September at 'A5 % @ % > % c.
Outs averaged tinner on the regular mar
ket , though at no time was there any special
activity , and the unimportant improvement
was chicily on account of fair outside buying
orders nnd no pnfisuro to Bell. The strengtli
In wheat and corn exerted a slight unlluence
on oats. Trade centered In September nnd
Mny , with the former at 21J @ 22c. May
touched 2'o , or % a advance , but the
strength was not sustained. For July 22 > c
was bid , with a trade or two lln&lly atJ c.
No. 2 regular sold ntli2 # to arrive. The re
ceipts were largo and withdrawals increased
to 73,000 bushels. .
In provisions the bear side had the call.
The icnllng was weak , and for property of
all kinds prices were considerably lower.
Trading , however , was narrow nnd without
special features. Hogs wore easier , but tnoy
failed to stimulate business in any direction.
Operators wore conservatively Inclined nnd
Indisposed to do much more than an occa
sional scalp. The , leaders showed decided
Indifference toward the market , and from
outside sources the demand was compara
tively Inslgnillctmt , orders of all descrip
tions being under an nvorugo in number. In

to Tun HKK.I STOCKS The opening of the
stock market to-day was about In keeping
with the npnthy and conllietlng views which
abounded In stock circles last night. A cer
tain clement charged the weakness before
the close yesterday to Carntnnck's manipula
tions. The bulls wore relying on the grant
crops to bo moved , and the bears pointed to
the Indifference of the public and tlio fact
that too many lines had to share the business
in sight. There Is contention over Chicago's
attitude , the bears contending that western
traders changed from last Friday. Commis
sion houses are not decisive nnd play for
quick turns. Trusts are supported by Inside -
side parties. In railroad stocks conserva
tive houses claim that the short interest of
last week Ir still out nnd liable to help on the
flist good upturn , The activity this morning
was confined to n few stocks , Including St.
Paul , Atclilson and Northern Pacific pro-
